steady whine at the front end |
|
Any educated guesses appreciated.
There is a new low level whine at the front end. It is quiet enough that it is only apparent when off the throttle and say below thirty mph.
Coincidentally it started almost straight after a small accident last week, when an Audi A4 decided it could change lanes sideways into a Discovery. My tree sliders did a good job of protecting me, but the left side of his car is ruined. More to the point, it squeezed me fairly tightly and abruptly against the curb on the left.
The two may be unrelated, but as his insurance company have admitted full liability, if they are related then I should really get on it straight away.
Ta. D3 2.7 TDv6 HSE, 2005 in silver.

mmm the off the throttle description sounds a bit like the diff as that was when mine was most noticable but dont think your incident would be linked??

Maxmax I would say yours could be either bearing or diff, hard to say, but just in case it is the diff you should include it in your claim Cheers Ian

You can try to get it sorted under warranty but some will exclude it as wear and tear. If its a full LR daler warranty then i would certainly give it a go
New front hub costs in the region of £100 (comes as a complete unit...The Large One can supply them) and it can be a DIY job if you are feeling brave & have the gear. Plenty of info on doing them one here... if you do a quick a quick search. Depending on age of your car old ones can be a bit of a to get off but nothing that a good work out with a lump hammer wont sort .
They can go for ages .. I went to France & back on one (thought it was tyre noise ) then it got worse!!
There again they can get worse quite quickly, dont think there are many instances of them disintegrating tho, they are quite substantial as you would expect. Cheers Ian

that was my thinking it would go slowly, i also thought it was road noise! looks simple enough for me to do although an easy two or three hour job for a mechanic. Will ring the garage tomorrow, i haven't had it a month yet, bet they're sick of me ringing it i paid 12k for a car that i want to work
