You are right kp, but as i said he was just tinkering with the graphical display aspect of the Nanocom as part of the learning process Thumbs Up

Trying to be as quick as we can maplecottage, but obviously progress has been going a lot slower than i had imagined and hoped for on this and we have had a lot of problems we have had to overcome as while the Nanocom is super easy to use and with it's slick touch screen menu, behind it all it is technically a very sophisticated bit of equipment, running three Microcontrollers that all have to work together. It actually has its own custom operating system that runs specialist App modules.

However i am really extremely pleased with where we are currently at and what we have already achieved, and although it has taken longer to develop the Core processes for CAN BUS ECU's, this has been implemented in such a way that will allow these core functions to be universally shared by the apps. This will ultimately save a huge amount of time and effort when we come to implement coverage of other LR CAN BUS based Models.

One of the First things we implemented was the Fault code reading function. This involved making a whole new process of creating and handling a new file database, used for doing fault Code to plain Text meaning look up's.

Learning from past experience, we have spent a lot of time and effort to make the process a one click operation to automatically update the files with newer versions, making it super easy to update these for every software upgrade release. So right now even fault codes specific to the latest ECU's like the L405 electric Tailgate one are already included.

Although you can use the menu to pre select a specific ECU as per the MSV-2 and FCR, today we have been putting the final touches to an option that provides the ability to read the fault codes from ALL vehicle ECU's in one go.

Due to the concentrated processing ability of the Nanocom Hardware, All the ECU's present on the High, Low and Most Bus are accessed and have their fault codes read and translated to text inside just 6 - 8 seconds.

You then get a list showing how many ECU's were present, how many have faults logged and using on screen navigation buttons can then scroll through the codes / Text.

Of course you also have the Complimentary Clear Fault codes functions.

Full CCF editing is also done and tested, and is again implemented in a universal way where it simply writes the file provided by Genesis which is capable of providing the same type file regardless of the Vehicle model.

We have yet to add in a a few odd extra functions, like Service Reset, Tight tolerance mode etc, but these are not major things and are quite straight forward IMHO. For now there is really just one core function to be added which is really just an extension of the function that writes the CCF file provided by Genesis, and that is to write a Flash files, which will also be provided by Genesis.

By next week we hope to be testing and debugging this.

To start of with we will release coverage for the D3 and matching RRS, then add D4 and 2010 RRS and 2010 FFRR.

Somewhere along the line we will add FL2 and later Puma Defender, however we may well not implement Pre 2010 FFRR at all, or at least not anytime soon. Due to it's high content of Non Can Bus type ECU's.

Ah, typical Big Cry Need a fault code reader/reset tool to help diagnose and possibly fix a SRS light which will fail the MOT in 11 days and can't hold out for the new Nanocom Censored

Wow, as a Nanocom 1 & Evo User for the D2 and a Faultmate MSV-2 Multi vehicle user for D2 & D3 I really really looking forward to this 8)

Wonder if there will be a point for me to get the D4 licence for my MSV-2 or just wait for this. Hope for a bright future for Blackbox even though the competition on diagnostics get tougher.

Although i am biased, i have to say that the Nanocom Evolution is indeed actually a really great unit and provides a brilliant user interface that is quite unique to the industry at it's price point.
Certainly as you see from the testimonies of anyone who has invested in one, they really love it.

The problem is that in all existing stand alone equipment, you get a text only type LCD display with input by separate buttons, otherwise you have PC based systems which are not so easy to deploy as stand alone equipment and although providing full on large screen type graphical capabilities, these can be hard to see outside, the input is not that direct either, the choices can be overwhelming and the selections quite small.

As a small high resolution graphical display with a touch screen, especially when the software provides big fat finger sized buttons for the Menu's, it is really fast and super intuitive to use.

Here is a link to a video showing it in use.

Well we get closer every day. But unfortunately, although we are clearly well experienced and knowledgeable about the vehicle systems themselves, and what we need to achieve, implementing this on the Evolution platform is a bit unknown, and although some things go well and very quickly, it often throws up new and quite unexpected problems that most annoying can take some time to solve / sort.

Edfors:
Regards your D4 licence connundrum.

Your main decision point should be about SV or MV requirements.
If your requirement is really just for your own vehicle, then i would advise that you get the SV licence for your MSV-2 as this will provide the best capability for the cost.

Of course the MV licence on the MSV-2 is and will always be the ultimate.

Otherwise, you can wait to see the coverage we will eventually be providing on the Evolution for the D4 and decide if it is sufficient for your needs.

Many thanks for your thoughts and best wishes.

I first started developing diagnostic equipment for Land Rover vehicles way back in 1996. In respect of both hardware and software, despite many contenders popping up, I have always led the field in respect of vehicle access capability and hardware innovation to a degree that i am almost waiting for some decent competition.

Terms like CCF are now common place to D3 owners, and there are now others that provide edit ability of this, but there are some who remember the days when modifying a D3, even just to add 4x4 info was deemed impossible and no one had even heard of the CCF.

As a true and original source of innovation and self development, i will continue to set the standard for others to follow, and i certainly have no real concerns in respect of our future.

ATB

Colin

Good news Colin, though am very interested to find out what the given value of "soon" will be for it's launch date.

Do you need any beta testers? Whistle

santiD3:

The Faultmate MSV-2 is and will always be the ultimate diagnostic system for any and all Land Rover owners in respect of it's immense capability and functionality. It is as it has always been, second to none and we have no plans to replace it and we will continue to add ever more more functionality to it.

By adding coverage of the D3 and then other models to our existing and most successful Nanocom Evolution hardware, we are simply providing an additional diagnostic equipment solution that fits somewhere between our FCR and MSV-2 equipment.

No matter how long this takes, i am sure that it will never be "soon" enough for some.

And sadly when even the things you imagine would be a walk in the park turn into very time consuming problematic mine fields.

Colin, any idea yet whether or not an existing Nanocom Evo will be upgradable to this functionality (presumably with a new cable)?
