Engine failure - advice, please
Shortly before ariving home Tuesday "reduced preformance" appeared with the red triangle and performance WAS reduced. It has done this about a year ago where warning and the triangle disappeared and performance was restored after a restart, so I wasn't too worried...
I drove home (only a few hundred meters) and decided to do a restart after a few minutes. Unfortunately,as it turned out, I had to do a restart for going to vet for having my dog put down (unexpectedly - however, unrelated to the D4 problem).
At restart, it didn't run smoothly, perhaps firing on only 5 cylinders and then reduced performance + red triangle reappeared, this time also with the engine symbol. I managed to drive slowly to the closest LR service centre (conveniently located only about 1 mile from my home) and they are now investigating the possible cause.
I got a call from the garage this afternoon asking if I had noticed any smoke from the rear of the car lately. The answer was "no". He then explained he had examined the turbo (lots of oil) and the air filter (also lots of oil) and was now looking for any other cause than a defect turbo.
No previous signs of looming disaster. It is a MY2010 D4 HSE @ 130,000 km (app 80,000 miles).
So, here are my questions:
- based on the above (and any further info I can provide) what do you think is the most probable cause?
- if it is the turbo, how much should I budget for a replacement?
I thank you in advance and trust the superior knowledge of the forum.

Likewise, very sorry to hear about your dog
I was recently quoted £800 per turbo.

Thx guys. Yes, it was a sad day. On the other, even 2x800 + hours seem like a minor issue compared loosing my trusted dog after 9 great years.
DSL, she was the spitting image of the dog in your avatar...

She is gorgeous looking. Keep up the good memories in a difficult time. The car is nothing compared with that.
