Rear Parking Sensors Poor When Wet

Recently, when the rear bumper has been wet the rear parking sensors have been a bit of a pain.

There tends to be long single tone beep from the rear on and off for a bit.

When the tone is "off" if the car is near an obstacle at the rear they seem to work OK, and give a tip-bip noise as expected.

When the car is dry, this isn't a problem.

Any suggestions?

I've tries squirting the outside of the sensors with WD40 assuming that water might have got into them, but it doesn't seemed to have improved matters.

Regards,

Steve

The best thing is to get the fault codes read, then start working out if you have a duff sensor or wiring Thumbs Up

I never thought they would have fault codes...

I just thought it was activating as if an object was near.

I'll plug in the IIDTool later today an see if I have any codes related.

Regards,

Steve

I didn't think they did either until Bodsy told me Very Happy One of my front ones needs replacing, but haven't got around to it Rolling Eyes
The wiring can go faulty as well. Clear the existing codes. Then activate the sensors, and check again Rolling Eyes

No fault codes to read, certainly not in the Parking Aid section, but of course it's dry and there wasn't a problem.

I might have to wait till it's wet again before I try.

Steve

In my opinion you just check wiring harness in bumper. when it will wet it shorts out you just replace the harness and at the same time if any sensor damage from water replace it.if harness is fine then install new reverse sensor If the sensor and harnesses both are in good condition install new reverse module.

I guess to check the wiring harness, the bumper needs to come off.

What I would have expected, assuming water in the bumper harness was the problem, would be problems after driving.

I can park the car, dry and all fine, then after rain (no driving in the rain) the sensors seem to be on the blink.

Surely the module can't fail just when the bumper is wet?

Still not had an opportunity to test when failing, but I may do later when I go out.

Regards,

Steve

Yeah, that's what if feels like to me.

But before the snow and ice cold snap (the first one, Feb, not the last one) it only did this very very occasionally.

Stephen

I had the same problem; rear PDC giving error tone when wet. It was cured by replacing the loom in the rear bumper and none of the individual sensors needed replacing.
