Sand Mode

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Why hasn't anyone mentioned sand mode....... (or am I blind as well as....)

The pull from the lights is incredible! Whistle

ANyone got any technical explanation as to why the normal mode is so slow to pull off (Accelerator lag) yet in Sand mode the car moves... even made swmbo sick when I used it to pull round a roundabout

Just gives you a lively throttle and holds the revs between gear changes.

Does NOT increase engine power at all.

I seem to recall someone here saying that the torque was changed in some way in 'sand'; anyone know if this is fact or blx?

RichieP - I found the quote below in a PDF from this site I think. It is now in my gallery but the relevant part about Sand Mode is repeated for you below.

"...Transmission downshifts readily and throttle is responsive for acceleration. Traction and stability systems allow for increased wheelslip."

As I can't imagine the engine could develop more power unless the fuel delivery rate was increased, it must be the response of the throttle that makes for the faster getaways at the Traffic Light Grand Prix.

Mmmmmm. Still trying to persuade Mrs J that Turbochip is essential.

On safety grounds, of course.

Silly question I know, but was wondering Embarassed is it hard on the truck to drive in sand mode on the tarmac for extended periods?

I don't think your question is silly sideview - if you go back to Martin's link for the search on sand, you will not get a definitive answer but I believe that there must be some extra wear and tear on the transmission as a result of using Sand Mode.

I tried it out (to improve throttle response at intersections) but didn't think that it warranted the possibility of the damage to components when the mode expects the surface to yield like sand does.

It doesn't answer your question but I would be wary of using it full time until some qualified expert gives a different response.

Regards, Leigh

I think you will find that the answer was a mere opinion rather than a definitive statement on what would happen. Nowhere in the manual does it state "return the TR back to Normal mode on the road...or else". Opinion also, but I cant believe that any damage would result without relative advice or system warning.

Rolling with laughter That's okay DG, I appreciate the driving lesson.

Thanks Leigh, I think I will hold off playing with it on tarmac (unless at extreme times I need a fast get away 8) )
