I've just had a crack at removing my old cat but got stuck on the top bolt of the 3, my 6 sided 1/2" drive 15mm socket with UJ won't fit on and my 3/8" sockets are either too deep to fit on or too shallow to grip properly. I also tried a 15mm ratchet spanner on it but it was too close to rounding it off.
Any thoughts chaps?
Cheers

Looking at the pictures of the intercoolers above, has anyone used both of them to compare?
Cant help but think the off road version is a much better design My D3 Build Thread

I loosened off the heat shield up the top and slid it down a bit, then used a 1/2" drive with UJ and long extensions, even an extra long breaker bar to crack that one, but I found a 1/2" AF socket a perfect fit!
The only one I had an issue with was the one accessed via the wheel arch but an Irwin bolt extractor had it off in no time!
I also think the fins are slightly farther apart on the off-road version so it can be cleaned easier -but I'm not 100% certain.
Whatever, I'm very pleased with mine - makes a huge difference to midrange pickup - IMHO Mark.

Finally got my decat on, the Irwin bolt extractors got the top nut off without any drama
Anyone else have trouble getting flared end on the new decat into the rear section? The diameter seemed around 1mm larger than the old cat pipe meaning I really struggled to get it into the rear section properly so it's blowing a bit until I can get some help bashing it home.
Cheers,

It helps if you get a mate to take hold of the tail pipes and pull the whole exhaust back a bit so you can line it up and then a bit of 'wiggling' should see it slip right in -tight is always good IMO

Nope still no good, got the missus to help and I dropped the whole exhaust to see if that would help but it's still only got around 1.5cm of contact within the rear section. Maybe I got a duff one as my missus pointed out the angle it enters the rear section is off a little Current - 05 D3 HSE TDV6 Ex 55 FFRR 4.2 Supercharged Ex 55 D3 HSE TDV6
