How much for a Timken bearing??

Need to replace one of my front wheel bearings, AF are selling Timken for about £260 inc VAT for one bearing! Can be found cheaper on ebay but you take more of a risk obviously. Couple of questions for anyone in the know...

1) Why are Timken bearings so expensive

2) The three other brands listed on AF (Febi, Meyle, and one other unspecified?) going for between £80 and £100 any good and worth a try, or is it a case of you get what you pay for an Timken are the only real quality bearing to go for?

Just pretty shocked at the price differential.

I was buying rear Timkin bearings 5 years ago for £36.66 you won't buy them for that now. Most service bits are now between 30% and 50% more expensive that back then.

You have to shop around, and sometimes be prepared to accept a lower standard of customer service if you want to save on parts!!

Island have Timkin hub & bearing for around £140 + vat

Thanks all... I ended up ordering a Timken one from Island at £140+ VAT. I would have rather used AF as site sponsors but never mind, £100 difference is a tad too much for the same product

Is it a big deal if I re-use the driveshaft nut? The new hub didn’t come with a nut and wanted to get the job done this weekend. Can wait though if it’s a no-no to re-use.

I’ve never needed to fit a new nut Thumbs Up

Thank you, did it today. Old hub was really stuck on... and the 4 hub retaining bolts were a real effort to get out. Glad we did the renewal though, the old girl seems a lot smoother.

Every timken bearing I have seen has its own part number etched or stamped on it, usually on the edge of the race.

Yes but that is a timken product, these are hubs with a timken bearing - the bearing isnt available separately.
