Mine went down pre 60K service and is now back up.
Did a run from home to Middlesborough and back with lots of high speed cruising on the motorway (wanted to get home). Average over the 450 miles was nearly 32 MPG.
Mind you the sections of average speed cameras were done at a steady cruise control 50MPH so may have helped. Never use cruise control on open sections though - only to keep inside a speed limit in town or roadworks. Amazing how many people you overtake when the D3 does 50 dead and others are manually trying to keep at 50

... just done 800km with one tank full. This is a magnificent 9.4l/100km or approx 30MPG!
The temperature affects my fuel consumption worse than air conditioning or load!

DEALER RECENTLY PUT 60 PSI IN MY 4 TYRES. THE SIDE EFFECT WAS I ACHIEVED 34 TO THE GALLON ON THE MOTORWAY. I REDUCED PRESSURE WHEN I REALISED WHAT THEY HAD DONE. I DO THINK THEY WERE TRYING TO KILL ME!!

I'm getting about 21mpg while dragging the tintent, but 31mpg without it. It came as a bit of a surprise, as over the past couple of years my Defender90 didn't seem to acknowledge the van was there, regularly returning about 25mpg whether towing or not. D3 TDV6 SE Auto 2006

Had the misfortune today to join the A12 at Ipswich (heading London bound) and overtake within 100 yards of joining a police car doing 69 mph. The road was empty(ish) so set the cruise at 70. The police pulled in behind and stayed there for the next 45 miles (W**K**) till I left at my exit, Galleywood. By that point I was the head of quite some convoy.
Anyway over the 45 miles at a constant 70 I averaged 27.4 mpg (I reset trip as soon as I set the cruise), in my turbochipped auto HSE. The road was that empty I rarely had to brake so hardly any acceleration or braking.
Is this good/bad/expected?

tyre pressures, load, wind speed and direction will all make a difference, i'd expect better TBH although a one-off measurement is highly subjective without a control sample to compare against for Freelander 2 Diesel, Discovery 3 / RR Sport TDV6 & RR Sport TDV8, Defender (TD5 & Puma) - available Now!

Got my TDV6 HSE re-mapped by JE Engineering (its half price in June!) and headed for Brussels a 700 mile round trip all motorway. Averaged 26mpg on the trip and got 28mpg before if I locked it at 75mph on the cruise. So bad news you think? Not really - very happy with the extra power so took oportunity equipped with GPS speed camera detector and a helpful Belgium BMW to floor it and see what the top end was. Got it to 125mph and lost bottle - would have gone a bit higher I think. Came back around 90mph all the way so thought 26mpg was OK really.
