Torque converter

Torque converter

Please excuse me as I really don't know what I'm talking about here and have very little automatic gearbox experience !
Should I expect to experience some 'slip' from the torque converter, almost like 'floating' revs usually when driving with a relaxed style in the low gears ?
I've read a bit about this on the forum but usually seems related to older cars with some miles on them, not one that has just gone over 1000 !
Just wondering if I have something to worry about or not !

Ok so I thought I'd try it in command shift to see if it was the same, it keeps dropping out of manual and going back into D by itself ?
Booked into the dealer !

Sounds like gear linkage is sticking.

Are you using the paddles? If you change up or down using the paddles, if you don't use them for a certain amount of time it will automatically go back to D

Yes that's exactly what happens. Funny though I even explained it to the person in the service department ?!

The 8 speed gearbox in the D4 is a revelation over the earlier 6 speed box.

You will find that even before the car has warmed up, the TC will lock up, giving you much more torque to use. Thumbs Up

I guess reading the manual is last on the list but if you select 'S' and then use the paddles it stays in the manual mode. Flicking a paddle in D mode is just a temporary override. Useful if you want to preselect a gear for overtaking or tackling a descent. If you accidentally select a paddle in D or want it to go back to full D before it automatically defaults just hold the up paddle for a few seconds.

Disco has been back to the dealer to look at this, they think there's nothing wrong with it but I'm not so sure. I test drove another MY15 car and it showed none of the symptoms I'm seeing.
Anyone else seeing this with their 8-speed box ? Any ideas ?
When pulling away at a constant throttle the revs climb steadily and it changes to second, in second around 1500 to 2000 rpm the revs hold/dip before starting to climb again whilst the sense of acceleration remains the same. Sometimes it happens in first gear but always second. Give it the beans and it will accelerate fine through the gears.

Robse, yes I get this from my my12 8 speed, exactly as you describe and I too have a relaxed driving style, it is usuly around 15mph and I put it down to the torque conveter going into full lockup.
I hope it's not a sign of problems. Mine is at 23k miles but only had it a month.

Hi Lee. I'm going to take mine back. They said they had reset the gearbox "adaptions" but it hasn't made any difference. I'll let you know how I get on.
Hope it isn't problems, mines less than 2K miles !!
