Think about fitting a motor mover (or a van with one already fitted), essential for getting the van into tight spaces in storage compounds, or down the side of your house, or on many sites, especially abroad where space is tight for a large UK van.
Get one that applies to the wheels using a lever rather than by a "winding on" action. PM me if you want any further advice.
Whilst a van can be manoeuvred by a Discovery you won't get the precision you need for tight spaces, and 2 people or even + 2 kids can't easily move a 4 or 6 berth van fully loaded unless it is on tarmac or perfect concrete. 2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

That's what got me back into caravanning about 6 years ago.
Mountain biked past a small CCL on a nice warm sunny weekend day on the verge of the North York Moors, saw this chap sitting outside his van (with splendid views) reading his paper and having a cuppa.
"That's what I want to do" , leave Fri - chill - come back Sun........ never done it yet. 
Weekends seem so much faff: getting the van out of storage, set up, tow then return & unpack, stow away, for just a couple of days.
But I do make extensive use of it for weeks at a time from March through to October.  I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Have a good think about what u want from it ,go to a dealer even if u don't buy from there and look at the different layouts some look great in the pics but feel cramped once your in it . If u buy private try to get as much kit as possible included in the sale ,you will soon work out what you need and what you do not. Have a go at manoeuvreing I've seen people on our local tescos on a sun after they close . Join a club as others have said and just go steady on your first few outings . Most people will offer you a hand if you need it and the most important thing of all enjoy it. I have four kids and they all love it and it gets them off the games consoles for some good old fashioned playin out !!!

If you get one from a dealer make sure you get a "starter pack" thrown in. We bought our first one from Read Caravans in Blackburn in November. We got the following as part of the deal.
Aqua Roll
Waste master
Leisure Battery
Hookup Cable
Towing Electrics adapter
Tow Hitch Lock
Wheel Lock
Tow Hitch Cover
Step
Also got a gas bottle full of gas
Also get some mirrors thrown in as well. And don't forget to haggle.
If you see one on a dealers web site check with them before you go as ours is still for sale from where we got it, apparently.

Be carefull on the starter pack though. We have ordered a new van and dealer wanted £250 for a starter pack. However some of the items that they said were in starter pack were actually included with the van ie mains lead, step, gas reg. We managed to buy second hand stuff which saved a bit. You can get a leisure battery from euro carparts and get 25% discount so cheaper than alot of dealers.
All im trying to say is that caravan dealers can be like car dealers and try and sell you something they want to sell and not necessarily what you actually want or need to buy.
