Touchscreen, which one??
As the carpooter quest continues (as per NoDo$h's Netbook thread), looking at touchscreens to mount half on the centre "n" trim, using the satnav space.
Anyone got any other setups with pics as I'm still trying to decid what to do. I've seen one where the screen is mounted on top of the "n" trim with a ball affair, but can't remember where I saw it! Was going to mount the Lilliput with its standard stand, screwed into the floor of the satnav hole with a plate beneath
Thoughts/suggestions anyone???

Look in www.cartft.com It is German with lots of products, very good service and fast delivery. Remember that TFT screens are not very readable in direct sunlight, so it is worth spending a bit more (look in ''premium screens''). If it is a 7'' screen you can mount it directly into the satnav hole, but is requires a lot of work to do it (cutting and trimming).

Cheers Rennos and welcome to the Madhouse!!! The premium ones look very nice but that are twice the price if the Lilliput screens. One of the first things I look at is the brightness figure, 400cd/m2 is best I've found so far. I've thought about fitting the screen in the satnav hole but dint want to hack apart the dash.

what ever you get make sure you get one with a transflective screen there alot nicer in direct sunlight. Ive got a lilliput 7" non/transflective and I'm thinking of getting the upgraded screen. got to mp3car.com there is alot of good info there.Sceen name use to be "wantsanlr3"

Wouldn't a 16:10 screen be better for graphics etc. They seem quite common now.

is 16:9 close enough?? Now thinking about one of these transflective screenameebobs:
It might fit in the satnav slot, ir just in front of it.

It's quite unusual to find a proper 16:9, most LCD PC displays are 16:10. That is a native 800 x 480 so is more than 16:9.
I am looking to do the same and build in a PC with display, GPS etc.

Spent the last 2 hours horrifying myself at the price of transflective screens, over £500 for a 7" job with decent brightness. The LinITX one is a bit more reasonable at £323 but have never heard of them and can't find out much on t'internet. http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=12031
Anyone know anything about their screens??
Also wide screen formatting is less desirable for my uses as it will mainly be for map use and more square displays would be better, nothing worse than seeing lots of what is to the E & W & much less to N & S!
And re. the NS/EW thing. Remember Memory Map and similar are always North Up, regardless of your direction of travel as the maps don't support rotating text. An upright screen only has the advantage on screens that rotate the view on the map to match the direction of travel.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Not sure how good the Mini's display will be in very bright conditions, also was going to put the Mini out of harms way in the rear and cable through to the touch screen. Keeps the Mini out of the sand and dust that got everywhere on the last Tunisia trip. Thoughts at the moment anyway but budget may defeat those thoughts.
Also can't cope with "track up" mode on maps, tend to not know where I'm pointing.
That's what the "direction of travel" arrow is for
Can't speak for Fugawi, but on Memory Map you can't rotate the map view.
As for dust etc, the SSD Mini9 has NO moving parts at all, so dust and sand not anywhere near the issue you might have with a traditional pc. No fans to draw in the cack either.
Finally, LinnITX. Screen image not bad (but not great and certainly not as good as the stock Mini9 screen) and touch sensitivity was a bit random on the two I've had. One still in use in my mate's defender, the other one died when it fell out of the glovebox onto the floor of the car.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
