Tow Bar Cargo Boxes
I am travelling to Austria at Xmas and will have the Dog in boot for the first time. He is a big Boxer and likes a bit of space! I use the Flexi lane at the Eurotunnel terminals do will not use a roof rack so...
I am tempted by a tow bar luggage carrier like these:

Anybody got any tips or experience of these?

I have the Thule base and rigid box as in your pictures.
Brilliant is all I can say. Very sturdy and you don't know its there.We had 4 people, 2 German Shepherds, loads of bags and a mobility scooter! They hold so much, it was all in the box which left the whole of the boot free for the dogs.
No drag like a roof box.
You cant really open the boot with it attached, which for us wasn't an issue.
The tailgate is too high anyway for ours to jump in (they can do it, but they dont like it, and when jumping out I dont want them to put too much strain in their arms.), so we always fold the rear seat when they get in anyway. Its much easier for them.
so that's what I saw in France last year. did wonder what it was.
would be handy if you had a D5 ... would cover the ae end nicely !

my brother uses a thule 3 bike rack (not the one above) which has a quick tilt facility for getting the dog in and out on his XC60
He uses the Thule Bag, as its less ridge and he can fit his camping gear in better and has eyelets to ratchet it secure

Yep, once you have the base as per photo above, you can get all sorts of accessories like bike rack etc.
Solid or bag is personal choice, I only went for the solid as it was better protection for dads scooter. It does have ratchet straps and hooks etc as well.

Having said that, I do know that if you loosen the inside fixing (inside the box) the whole think will drop forward. But thats no good if its full.
