Tow harness help

So after previous attempts to get the trailer brake lights to work I finally prioritised looking at the wiring harnesses today!!

What a mess!!!

I mean it’s not designed well at all but assuming it is actually possible to install the wiring so that it doesn’t rub in at least 5 different places under the body, mine is totally knackered.

I removed both, having to drill off the heads of the 6 bolts holding the actual plugs on the bumper and want to replace altogether the harness/es. The piece connected to the back of the brake light is fine, just the parts connected to the plugs, and if the price is high I’ll just do the standard trailer plug and do the caravan on another time.

My issue is, despite the stickers on the wiring being in tact, the part numbers only pull up eBay result when I Google them.

Can anyone help identify the correct part numbers for the two wiring harnesses on a 2007 D3?

These are what I have:
4h22-15r555-ba
4h22-15a417-da

When I put a tow bar on my D3 I just bought standard parts to make a harness, it was way too much LR were wanting, everything still worked as it should.

Thanks Dave, if I was starting from scratch I might have done the same. I’m looking to replace one or possibly two parts of the harness that’s already there.

You could go to www.gentlemenofsalvage.co.uk and pick up a secondhand one at a sensible price.
My D3 HSE had never had a a tow-hitch fitted so I purchased the loom that connects to the N/S car loom via two multi-pin plugs etc.
As you have this loom and is OK, you can get the second part of the loom from where the other loom exits the car and goes along he back to the two 7pin trailer sockets.
As you have found out the original LR trailer sockets have the cable moulded, well has some epoxy stuff to seal them from the nasty gunge thrown up at the back of the car!
I forget what I paid, about £30 for each loom, £60 in total, but I do have a 'proper' LR loom!
From what was on my looms LR do wrap their connectors in some rather horrid tape to keep them watertight. I used some self amalgamating tape on mind to keep them dry!

I guess you can get some standard black 7 core towbar cable to power your normal socket.

And join it to the landrover towbar cable high up or by the light or better still just inside the car.

This cable should offer more protection, and not be so bulky that is rubs in places

It's only the plugs that plug into the LR loom are the nice bit. (and fuses if you have them)
The rest is little advantage to having genuine.

Oh I don't know.
The wires into the 7 pin sockets are sealed against the crud and salt so can't corrode, that is over and above a 3rd party kit, surely?

You'd find even more arduous if you want to lift the body off with a third party kit!

Bit of silicon sealant on the socket cable.

Keep the sockets by the bumper/light for body removal.
