Someone else might come in but IMHO so long as the threads are clean and dry I would just torque up to the recommended settings. Check the torque again especially after first use Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

No thread lubricant on my Dealer Fitted bar.
there appears there is some blue thread lock in the nuts. (but not a lot)
Torque to correct settings. If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking .. O

Thanks for the advice, all fitted. Hope SWMBO will feel happier towing the nags.
I swapped my removable for a fixed (Tow Trust ) bar. I was never happy after reading the various posts on tow bars and I always found it was tight when I first inserted it but after towing it was always slightly loose, rather like the locking tongue had worked itself back.
Very bad design (IMHO) although the principle of a 'built-in' towing system was a good one.Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

Now it's the old what height should I have the ball at, the detachable was at 420mm but our horse trailer would have a wiggle on at speeds above 50mph. I contacted Equi-Trek and they said 500mm but the trailer is level at 365mm, 500mm seems very high to me.
Trailers should be level or slightly nose down. Never nose up Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

I'll be really interested to hear where you get to with this.
We have the Tow Trust fixed tow bar on our D4 and tow an Equitrek SpaceTreka L.
I have the tow ball on the lower of the 2 positions and always feel that the trailer is still a bit nose high and therefore putting extra load on the rear axle. Not by much though
It does tow well at that height even with over a tonne of 2x16.2HH horses on board.

Not sure if this helps but I have just gone from a detachable tow ball 374mm to the top of the ball to a tow trust on the lower setting that is now 401mm. So a little increase of 27mm
