Towbar question
Hi,
Ive noticed some D4’s for sale have a fixed towbar, some a detachable, and some dont mention a towbar at all. I would assume a vehicle like a D4 would have the fixtures & fittings to fit a towbar to, and towing electrics as standard is this the case?

All the d4's have the receptacle for the detachable tow bar, but if they wasn't specced for it from the factory there will be no electrics installed.
So you would need a detachable towball and the wiring installed and activated if it's not already there.
Best to stick out for one with it already there if you need it.Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.

Odd, isn’t it?!
Until they quantify how many days a year and a maximum number of miles in one go that that means, perhaps “Not intended for towing” would be more accurate and helpful 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Fixed tow bar under £200 none LR about £90 electric wiring harness. Both can be cheaper on here 2nd hand more important to find the right D4 nice if already fitted but in the scheme of things small amount of money. There was a recall for tow bar from LR not sure of full details. I chose to fit fixed not keen on the removable type my personal choice also the removable get pinched like the spare wheel. So a protector for the later also worth it as may not realise it has gone until you need it

Tow bar is not an issue buying a Discovery. Once you own one, decide then what you need to tow. If light and occasionally then a swan neck will do, but if you intend towing anything over a ton ( well according to landrover 750 kg) on a regular basis then a fixed tow bar would be recommended

Cheeky I know but I have both types of tow bar available that will fit, both original land rover ones, then all you need is the electrics!

Are you able to point me to this advice from Land Rover? (Genuine request, not a challenge) as I am towing a heavy twin axle van with a detachable towbar and was unaware of this official advice)

Just because a towbar isn't visible does not necessary mean it hasn't got one or electrics, take the cover off with a coin and check what's there, although if you find one the price may go up It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I’d be interested in that advise as well as also not been able to find anything official about towing limits, I tow a 1800 Kg caravan with s removable one with no issues so far, what are the differences between the Lr removable and fixed apart from the obvious🙂. They both appear to fit in the same receptacle but the fixed one has a couple of support straps added -anything else?
If it’s required then what is the best fixed tow bar to fit, thanks

Dead easy, call into any LR main dealer and ask them to check your tow bar for safety.- it's free It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks all,
I tow a caravan in the holidays so didn’t want to pickup a disco and then find LR have made it an expensive job to add a towbar!
Ideal to find one already installed but at least I know its no biggy if not.
Interesting to hear about the ‘occasional use’ thing. Surely it can either tow or not? Or has a lower noseweight limit than the fixed?

Lower nose-weight 150kg to the fixed 250kg but I believe that's only LR, fixed third party ones can be 150kg, either way it shouldn't be an issue with most UK caravan, our 1800kg TA Swift is 110kg nose-weight.
Occasional use means it should be removed when not is use and not used for continuous heavy duty towing, we have a 3.5t livestock trailer, I told our dealer this when it went in for the check and they fitted a fixed one foc.==================================
