Towing a caravan with a Discovery 3 - great comparison site!

I recently took delivery of a Hobby 720UKfe (twin axle - 7 birth wing-ding) caravan... and on doing my research about towing capabilities of my D3 TDV6 Auto, I found http://www.whattowcar.com/ which has a very nifty 'OUTFIT MATCHING' page so to compare your vehicle with your particular caravan, I just entered the details in the wee box to the left.... and mine came out with:

"Landrover and Hobby

The towing capability for the Landrover Discovery III - 2.7 Td V6 aut.
with a Hobby Exclusive 720 UKFe:

Performance on levelled roads
Top speed
Usability 6th gear
Acceleration and take over Performance in mountainous regions
Drive off uphill
Driving on motorway slopes
Driving on steep roads

Landrover Discovery III - 2.7 Td V6 aut. (140 kW/188 bhp)
Date of manufacture: november 2004 - up to now

76%

1992 kg 2604 kg

The match between car and caravan is perfect in accordance with a mix of European standards. However, according to the British Towing Code the percentage (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car) is 76%.

The towing performances of this Landrover with your Hobby are perfect (performance index = 111 km/h or 69 mph).

You may expect excellent performances from this outfit. On flat roads it's easy to come along, in which case top gear is applicable under normal circumstances.

On motorway inclines you will be able not only to come along, but be the first at the top. On steep roads you have more than sufficient power to keep going. On hill starts there will be more than enough power to get going, provided the wheels have traction."

Details borrowed from 'whattowcar.com'

Plus a whole lot more information..... have a go yourself?

I have no affiations to this particular site, but thought it a good reference guide for all you 'caravaners' out there!

Dunc, there'll be more than one hill - possibly one for every D3.

Of course Ronp, glad you appreciate or that could have been construed as a bit rude.

I got 5 stars and first to the top of the hill as well - I guess it's the D3 bit, I put the Alfa 155 in and got 1 star
