Towing electrics 2016 D4

Connected up the caravan for the 1st time but no tail lights on the van (car lights are on).

Went to check fuses as were on the D3 but no fuse block in the rear left cubby. Am I right to assume there would be if the LR wiring kit has been used?

There's no separate fuses for the towing electrics on the D4, IIRC there are towing electric fuses in the main fuse box. Thumbs Up

Car is hitched up to the van with the passenger side door against the fence (and it is dark).

Taking the van for its service tomorrow morning. All other lights work so I will drop it off then check fuse/do some diags when I am back.

The D3 had the removable towball and towed really nice. This has the LR fixed bar. Its a bit of a mess on the back so in two minds over removing it.

Only problem is the lack of key for the Brink flange adapter.

Some contact cleaner or even WD40 on the contacts may help

Fuse was indeed blown.

Now got to work out why the voltage is over 2 volts down from the battery voltage. Censored

i take it you mean down, as in at the socket?
is the wire the correct gauge? might be voltage drop.or dirty earth hence fuse blowing

Land Rover wiring so should be up to the job.

Not withstanding that this is at the 13 pin socket with nothing connected i.e. no load. Voltage drop only occurs as a result of current draw through a resistance. A DMM is an open circuit input so draws no measurable current.

Assuming replacing the blown with a good one means the fuse connection is okay and this is the only point fed by the fuse I will have to go back to see what the voltage is there. Any fault that could drop that much should blow the fuse immediately.

Today with the side lights on battery, fuse, battery terminal in trailer socket as well as the left and right side light terminals all read about the same.

Very strange?

To me that would say the fault is in the ground wiring at the front of the car, where there is load going thru the ground wire.

On one hand it could be normal, as some drop is acceptable.

I would measure the voltage drop between battery - terminal and various metal points with engine running.
If you get 1v or more (or something significantly different) you may want to investigate.

Edit: If you have the LR battery bms on the battery- terminal that’s not going to work

Took the van for its service, all lights worked and didn't blow the fuse so all OK now.
