Towing electrics questions |
|
Hi
Just trying to fit my ebay 'bargain' towing elec.
Got a couple of questions -
I dont have the 'plate' for the near side mounting. thanks to ebay! Is that something that can be bought separately??
Also - which side does the black capped socket go and which side the paler one?

Mine came with the White "S" socket on the Disco's left side but I doubt if it makes any real difference functionally.
Wish it was a 13 pin one though as I had to replace the white plug; silly design as it is.

This does seed an additional question if I may:
Anybody just changed the twin 7 pin sockets for a single 13 without replacing the whole harnesses?
Is there enough slack cable to do this?
Thanks

all became clear when I looked at the on-line instructions. Bit of a pain. Could do it in a 1/4 of the time next time.
As i didnt have the plate I could only secure one of the sockets with one rather than 3 bolts.
What is all this 13 pin stuff? How do I tell which one I have got?
I meant to be towing a horse box soon and want to ensure it is compatible.

The 13 pin is the single socket system already used on the Continent that comes becomes standard on new caravans at least, from Sept this year.
It serves the same purpose as our dual 7 pin sockets; the black and the light coloured ones.
It overcomes a serious weakness associated with the centre pin of the lighter coloured socket.
I doubt with a horse box you need the lighter coloured socket, and can get away with the black one only .
With many of us towing caravans we face changing to the 13 pin system when replacing our vans or living with an adaptor [ worst of all options]. So I was interested in knowing if the existing is convertible or is it buy a new 13 pin harness and replace in total?
