towing in access mode
ok..there have been a few reports of things going bang when in extended mode with lots of lock on sand..
so due to the extreme angles adding stress the strongest. set up would be with axles and joints all in line...so with that in mind would it make sense where possible to tow in access mode as the shaft are as snug as they can be?
obviously the application of lock is the main issue and should be avoided. but every little helps...
so with winter coming and tow ropes burning a hole in the boot waiting to be used what do you think...no one wants a bang and a bill when trying to be a hero...
comments..It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

The vehicle is designed to run in normal height most of the time, access doesn't *necessarily* do what you think regarding component alignment.
Excuse the comedy diagrams and the necessary exaggeration of the angles, but the principle is as follows. Viewed from the front or rear, the driveshaft is the "straight" line on the left.

but when I have looked at the drive shafts in normal they are still angled down a touch.not in line.
I will pop my head under later to confirmIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

ok just popped head under...man its hot outside today..
and ....slight angle down in normal..more angle up in access.
so....tow in normal mode only and if you are offroading drop to normal before towing.
(or access if you have lift rods on)
will post pics soonIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

if you connect a trailer in low range and use a TR programme you will notice that the car does not raise to off road height as it would when no trailer is connectedPrince Harry's D3: G4 factory equipped D3 - expo rack, winch, roof lights, ladder, active locking rear diff, RAI, Melville & Moon seat covers, General Grabber ATs/ Goodyear Duratrac

Shouldn't you avoid towing it at all because of the 4WD? I always thought you are only supposed to have it on a flat bed trailer. I even have a sticker at the back reminding the towing guy of that.2012 D4 SDV6 HSE - Heavy Duty, Alpine Roof, Sidesteps, modded LR RAI, Stebel Nautilus, Trailer hitch cargo carrier - Best Car I've ever owned

The bit missing from the requirement to make it go bang is hard acceleration...everytime I've seen them go it's been when the driver was giving it lots of wellie !! 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The torque produced in low range is terrific, just do a simple manoeuvre on Tarmac in low range, I always use mud and snow setting for manoeuvreing and when towing a loaded horse trailer.
Statistics show that when F1 cars transmissions fail it is nearly always on overrun when the drive changes from max power to engine braking. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
