I have noticed a few YouTube channels showing businesses in Russia who are replacing discovery engines with I think 4.2 litre diesel Toyota Engines ??? Has anyone done this in the UK or know of anyone who does it ???

Cant imagine a V8 Toyota engine is going to be cheap, let alone the labour to swap it.

The 4.2D is a straight six. Not a V8.

Ah sorry, I was thinking of the 4.5!
My old man used to have the 4.2 in a Land Cruiser years ago. Seemed reliable, but agricultural. A lot of the Australian overlanders use them.
I would personally be sticking with a LR engine for the D3/D4.

I had the 4.2 diesel Landcruiser Amazon.
It felt like it could take on a tank, but it was pretty agricultural, lazy and thirsty.
Moving on to the TDV6 was a relief.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

The normally aspirated 4.2 was arguably the most reliable engine ever put in a vehicle which was required to work hard. They are virtually unbreakable. They were carried into the 100 and 105 series LC's and also widely preferred in the 79 and 76 series Cruisers for farming use. Later in the 200 series they favoured smaller capacity twin turbo engines, but the 4.2 remains sought after. Great engines.
