Very sad My sympathies to all involved
That must have been a decent speed to set the pass side airbag off and deform the body like that i'd say 35-40mph! wonder if they were tipsy or something to run into traffic like that?FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

A sad sad incident for all involved, often in cases like this the driver of the vehicle is forgotten, I fortunatley have never been invovlved in such a tragedy, but a collegue of mine has, an elderly gentleman stepped out in from of him and went over the car, my collegue was cleared of any blame, he was not speeding and had not been drinking.
Sadly the elderly gentleman lost his fight for life shortly after the incident, the impact this has had on my collegue is devistating, he may not have been found to be at fault, but he will never ever be the same Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Tragic, and a number of families have been devastated.
I saw this on "Reporting Scotland" which is the nationwide Scottish news programme, and I was left with the distinct impression there was a hidden agenda to the way the story was reported there, and indeed in the press.
There were many references to the fact the vehicle involved was a Land Rover...and the television news item finished with the phrase "the driver of the 4x4 was unhurt"....not.... "the driver of the car was unhurt"
There seemed to be some veiled suggestion in the reporting that the severity of the accident was exacerbated by the type of vehicle involved...I was left with the thought that if the same accident had occurred involving, say a Fiesta, leading to the same tragic loss of life, would there have been much less focus on the type of vehicle involved.....
I sincerely hope this post doesn't come across as unfeeling,or worse flippant, because my overriding emotion is one of huge sadness for all involved, its just that there seems to be an agenda against 4x4s in some areas of journalism, and even in the midst of such a tragic event, its almost as if they can't wait to put the boot in "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Tragic for all those involved, this includess those who tried to help and the emergency services dirrectly involved as well as all the families involved. It is never a good time for this to happen and Christmas is just around the corner.
As for the accident, we cannot speculate, there are hundreds of factors that could have an impact, pelican crossing, time of day, light/road conditions, things that we no nothing about. The best way forward is to let the Police do there job and see what the outcome is, it will be spot on though as the crash investigation are very good.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I don't think so. Its just statement of fact IMO. If it had been a van, they would have said 'the van', Lorry 'the lorry' etc. The fact is that we do drive 4x4's and we do sometimes set ourselves apart from from 'car' drivers, especially in bad weather, so maybe we bring it on ourselves?
Very Very sad for all involved.

Would also suggest that dependant on speed any vehicle/person crash normally ends up with the person in a very poorly condition or fatally injured.
