Trailer Advice - Camping / Tip Usage

Hoping to get some advice on what trailer would be best as I have zero knowledge on this subject.

It will only be used a handful of times a year but mainly for going to the South of France camping for a few weeks and perhaps to the local tip. The only advice I have been given so far is go bigger than you were planning ! Which does seem sensible as we take more stuff every time we go.

Do not want to spend much and probably go down the used route too if possible. I guess as and when we start to take bikes these can go on the roof rack so it doesn't need to be an additional bike carrier.

Thanks for any suggestions or tips.

Ifor Williams, but be careful when buying second hand that it isn't a stolen one (you can check with Ifor Williams directly)

an ifor Williams is a bit OTT for what you want to use it for.

try these guys - I bought a new one and they are very well made and reasonably priced

I bought the 8x4 unbraked, with a suspension capable of 1300Kgs. obviously only legally 750kgs on the road.

I have just been informed by my local tip that I need a licence to enter with my trailer as it's 6" oversize Shocked Ifor Williams pe6e so a little one compared to the others I have.

So I may have to buy a 2 wheeled reverse wheelbarrow to get rid of the garden carp.

Anyway, It's Ifor all the way for me especially abroad Thumbs Up

my SITA tip told me the max trailer size is 2 metres. I tend to go during the week and when its raining, so its always empty and they don't seem to bother too much then Thumbs Up

Caddy trailers are good value. I bought mine, 6' x 4', from eBay but they are quite hard to find. Towsure (www.towsure.com) sell them new at good prices.

same here - I have to book a slot to go to my tip with the trailer.

but back on topic - dont forget, when towing, the speed limit is lower (60mph) in UK motorways. and you're not allowed in the outside lane of a 3 or more lane motorway

Shocked

Like many on this forum I own a P6e (mesh sides, with ramp) so I would be shocked if I was turned away from a tip for it being too large. Which measurement do they go on, total length (just under 3m) or internal length (just under 2m)?

Our tip go on total length. the reality is the council will send a few permits out to you. I've still some that I got a few years a go as I don't need to take the trailer every week. All our vehicles have tow bars so there is no issue apply for permits for all of them.

If you plan to buy a trailer tow to France then I would recommend getting the best you can. I've spent time towing old tired trailers and it's just not worth it if you are doing any kind of distance.

If you buy a decent trailer like an Ifor you won't lose any money if you look after it, those P6e are nice trailers and light to tow.

Length of tub??

Is that the length of the load area - if it is mine should be ok at 2m?

Our council just take the Censored I went there about three years ago when they failed to collect for three weeks prior to Christmas as the road was to dangerous Rolling Eyes and was told I couldn't use my trailer as it was to big, I had four wheels bins in it Rolling Eyes

Trailer size restrictions
All sites accept trailers up to 1.8m x 1.2m excluding drawbar and no higher than 60cm with a cover.
Larger trailers up to 2.4m x 1.8m excluding drawbar and no higher than 60cm with a cover are accepted at Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and High Heavens sites only.

Well so far my tip has not mentioned anything. At 2m internal and mesh sides it is above some of the numbers being quoted here, so a bit of a concern.

Most of the stuff I take to the tip would, at a push, fit in the D4 but the trailer is an easy way to keep everything clean. I hope Lincolnshire does not adopt/enforce these daft rules.
