trailer build concept - composite panels
Has anyone any experience in building an off-road trailer with composite panels? Specifically, I'm looking for anyone who has used aluminium honeycomb or other cored composite panel to construct the tub/interior of the trailer, and whether it is possible to do it without using an internal frame? It would save a lot of weight, and essentially being a series of boxes stuck together, should in theory have enough rigidity and strength to cope with the demands of off-roading.

thanks, remember reading one a while ago on here but wasn't sure where it was. However, whilst it certainly does away with a separate frame, it's still using a lot of alu extrusion for joining and hence framing it. I'm wondering whether it would be strong enough just bonding the sheets together. Am also looking at alternatives to the grp that I think Wiggs used for better structural strength and better weight.
However, looking at the pictures again, it might be that the weight savings are not worth the effort.....

Would add quite a bit to costs though, but as you say you would save on weight.
I fancy another trailer build at some point Iggy/Ieuan

Wiggs, if you're looking at this - how does your trailer stand up to rough off road conditions - corrugations at 60mph, or very rough tracks at slow but sudden drop and bump speeds?
just read the whole build thread, think I've got my winter project sorted. Not sure I'll quite go the whole hog with linear actuators for solar tracking, mind you.....

Unfortunatly I don't live in Oz ...so cant comment on the 60 mph corrugations
Everywhere iv been in the UK is fine ...nothing has fell apart (body wise anyway )
The stuff is used to make truck bodies ..so its toughG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
