Trailer indicator problem |
|
Hello members
I have bought my first land rover it is a discovery 3, I'm really happy with the car and it runs really good I bought the car mainly for pulling our boat, I have now discovered an error with the indicator on the trailer, the car's indicator works as they shuld but when I plug in the trailer the indicator on the left side of the trailer don't work but the indicator on the car works.
When I measure the voltage in the socket to the trailer, I get 12v on the right indicator but only 8-10v on the left indicator.
Are there any light module somewhere that sends voltage to the trailer socket? And if so where is it?
I don't think I can take voltage from left rear indicator lampor because then the car Will senses that something is wrong with the lights.
Please help me so I can pull the trailer whith lights that works
Best Regards Andreas

Hello and welcome to this site and to Discovery ownership.
8-10v at the plug and not lighting a bulb. I'm guessing that you could have a poor connection somewhere in the car. Have you checked what the voltage is at the trailer fuse box at the back of the car? 12v there and enough current to light a bulb would narrow down where your fault is.

The trailer indicator supply will be sourced from a cjb I guess.
Worth checking at the rear (behind the light ) that connectors are ok.
Some work arounds I can think of.
1. Fit led to the trailer just on left side.
3. As you say power off the cars light and use led indicator on trailer left only.
To fix the real problem could be expensive sadly
Are you sure the trailer is ok and does have a short to earth. ???

the indicator is not connected to any of the fuses for the trailer light that is placed on the left side in the boot I can measure 8-10 V but I guess I don't have any current so the problem is further in in the car.
I am guessing that there should be some light module some where in the car that sends out the signal to the trailer indicator
The question is just where have they placed that module.
It would be helpful with a wiring diagram so I can see where the cable is connected.

what is cjb?
The cable that give power to the left trailer indicator comes with a lot of other cables I need to know where that cable is connected in the other end.

Central Junction Box
Basically the fuse box behind the glovebox.
But you don't want to mess with it unless you have to as it controls the whole car
