Trailer n Halfords = shocking communication

I’m about to turn 50 and I’ve been on about it for ages about getting a trailer. Unknown to me my wife has purchased a trailer from Halfords (Erde 143.2) for our occasional requirements. When she placed the order she specified not to deliver before the 21st Jun. The trailer turned up last week as I arrived home from work with a delivery van blocking the drive. Anyway the surprise was blown as the home assembly trailer was unloaded and the axle was the dead give away - wife was not best pleased. Opening the packaging to assemble it revealed something like a forklift had driven over it with forklift arm stabs in the panelling. We decided to return it and boxed it back up. My wife rang H customer services twice waiting 13 mins & 18 mins each, eventually emailing them receiving the auto reply - getting back to you in 24hrs malarkey. Nothing received from them but received a call from a unknown courier Co to say a scheduled delivery will be made on Wednesday, are you collecting the old one?. The woman didn’t know what was being delivered just checking that somebody will be in.
Mrs P-D rang Halfords again following day and got to speak with somebody and gave all the information incl 2nd delivery. The response was send the info in on email with photo’s (which she took before reboxing) and a manager will deal with it - still waiting some 5 days later and yesterday’s delivery didn’t turn up. My wife is not best pleased at the lack of communication and has contacted the CEO Graham Stapleton.

In the big scheme of things it’s only one per chase and it’s not a tremendous spend but really... Only my sons girlfriend is in today and she couldn’t assist the driver to unload it. We still have the 1st trailer boxed in the garage. Big Cry

if they Censored-up collecting the first one then you have spares !!

or if damage is cosmetic ... you could probably sell it on quite easily.

As previously said, keep it... you've made reasonable attempts to have it collected and any more than that is down to them...

Halfords customer service is quite pathetic... much easier going in to a local branch and speaking to the manager.. they can usual get things sorted pretty quick..

There's a lot worse for sale on Ebay ! Laughing post some photos on here and you'll probably have it sold by the end of the day !

I bought some Erde side extensions from them recently. They overhung the ends of the pallet and it looked like someone had been jumping up and Dow on the overhang. The metal was bent, but fixable. Definitely need a different carrier.

I’ve found my Erde trailers so unbelievably useful that I went back and bought a bigger one within the year! Thumbs Up

I’m really hard to buy for and like I said I’ve been dropping hints we need one or the world will stop spinning.

She is really good to me, we’ve been married 30 years this year. Oh and we’re going to France as well Thumbs Up

Update. My wife received a call yesterday from Halfords customer services. They have been really busy and apologised for the 6 day wait for any communication (no reply from the CEO Graham Stapleton). Short version is they have to collect the damaged trailer before dispatching a replacement. Upon dispatching a replacement they will “offer compensation”. It’s getting collected on Tuesday.

Red Merle - thanks i’ll mention it. Thumbs Up having been there what would you recommend

Always go larger than you think you’re going to need, because you WILL use it! The sweet spot with Erde’s starts with the Erde 153 (one up from the 143) and above, with full size wheels (with 13” car size tyres), “A frame” draw bar, a tipping body and more robust construction, but it’s still light enough to push around with no effort. Go for the largest variant that you can store and justify the cost of, as the longer the trailer is, the easier it is to reverse and the more stable it becomes, especially when you can spread the load low down, rather than pile it high.

If you can justify a 213, you’ll be able to fit sheets of plywood and the wheels are far enough apart to straddle the speed cushions that the car will straddle Thumbs Up

To illustrate the difference;

Erde 143:

Erde 153:

 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: FL2 as a second car

A small update. The trailer was booked for collection on Tuesday. The courier turned up on Monday expecting only one parcel. I said there’s three parts to make the one trailer. Luckily I was in (shift worker) or else nobody would have been there. Then contrary to Halfords instruction that they must receive the trailer before dispatching it, a courier turned up to an empty house yesterday to deliver it. Put a card through the door. Contacted the courier company yesterday and they have no record of a delivery to our address and the consignment number left on the handwritten card does not exist. Censored

Steve.
