Transfer Box / Axle oils
Can any body help with this please. According to the D3 maintenance check sheet, at 75k I need to drain the transfer box & the locking diff oils and renew. Now, in the owners manual it gives me the amounts I need but mentions the front diff and 2 types of rear diff (non-locking & electronic locking). That has confused me. My D3 is an 05 2.7TDV6 HSE Manual Box and I would realy appreciate help with the following questions.
1 - does the transfer box contain a limited slip diff
2 - will my rear axle be the non locking or electronic locking
3 - do i need to change the front and rear diff oils at 75k
4 - do the terms axle and diff relate to the same thing.
Although I will not be doing these things myself I would like to know what should be done.
1 - does the transfer box contain a limited slip diff
NO
2 - will my rear axle be the non locking or electronic locking
Could be either, physical inspection will tell you or PM me your chassis number and i will lock at the build sheet for the car
3 - do i need to change the front and rear diff oils at 75k
Yes, the service sheet recommends this replacement
4 - do the terms axle and diff relate to the same thing.
Yes

Many thanks for that, and my rear diff is not locking - called into the stealers today for a sump bolt and they looked and gave me the verdict.

Reg will be ok, as long as it's the first reg that the vehicle was used when registered, if not then only chassis
Just the last 6 numbers will doTLO has left the building.......

Yes I know this is an old post - Apologies and all that,
Not wanting to discredit the almighty prescence of TLO, but, just to clarify a point for mine and perhaps others interest. The diff oils are recommended by the LR schedule sheet I have in my possesion to be changed at 10 years (mileage irrespective) or at 75K for the e-diff only.
Please could TLO or anyone else in the know clarify this.
