Transfer box - replacing seal

Anyone needed to replace a leaking seal on their transfer box?

I seem to be losing a little fluid from where the drive shaft (prop?) enters the box at the front.

With my limited mechanic's vocabulary that is the best description I can give. I'd like to try to get it sealed up again and wonder what work is involved.

As mentioned in the above thread, the transfer box has to come out and be split to replace the seal. Not a great design IMHO!

You need to replace both the seal and the output flange - also check that the breather pipe is correctly fitted and not crimped or blocked

thanks for that...

where will I find the breather pipe? Location of both ends would be helpful if known.

The breather pipe is attached to the top of the front transfer box casting, but I'm not sure where the other end emerges.

at the top of the engine at the rear, there's two steel pipes about 5mm diameter, one for the gearbox, one for the transfer box, both open ended, the front diff is adjacent to the rad top next to the expansion tank, black plastic pipe with a cap on it

Shocked Another reason to avoid washing the engine bay then! Really open ended? No splash cap or anything?
