Transfer Box - any way to manually override

I'm back in the D3 fold having been away via a D4, and a FFRR Very Happy

I've got a basic 06 plate auto, on coils (and so without terrain control) - one owner, 120k and full main dealer service history.

Having seen a couple of D3's stuck with blown front CV's over the years because the transfer box wouldn't lock up, I was wondering if any of the diagnostic tools give the ability to lock the transfer box and allow progress to be made?

You’ve got me lost with that question Big Cry the transfer box can’t lock up its either in high or low, do you mean the central diff? What do you mean by CV?- if it means constant velocity joints D3/4 doesn’t have any.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sorry - I'll try to be clearer Embarassed

Can you lock the centre diff in the transfer box manually.

CV's refer to front (usually) or rear drive shafts.

Simple answers is no. Many have asked that when changing a prop shaft, and want to know if they can drive on one prop shaft only.

does your transfer box have a motor and solenoid ?

This is how they work, Maybe you can put the solonoid in the correct mode, (on or off) and briefly power the motor.

Thnaks Pete, given how it works I'm surprised GAP Diagnostic haven't written a programme to do that.

Two days ago I snapped a front CV joint in a mud pot and I couldn't get out. I had no drive. TR had problems with switching between TR modes (only blinking LEDs). After a dozen attempts it finally engaged Rock Crawl mode and locked central and rear diff locks. But... It didn't help much, because when I added a bit of gas the TR immediately disabled all diff locks and I had no drive. It looked like it was confused that only rear wheels were spinning and front weren't even with diff locks enabled.

It would be helpful in an emergency situations to have an option to forcefully lock at least the central diff using IID Tool.
