Transmission Fault - Traction Reduced ?

On my way back from Rockingham doing about 80 mph the info center suddenly "bonged" and it said Transmission Fault - Traction reduced.I carried on for about 40 miles and nothing seemed any different.

I then stopped for 15 mins and restarted.Message still on , also the terrain Knob wouldnt work either.

Iv had a quick search and there could be a wiring connection problem.Given the amount of rain we had at rockingham and the lake in the quarry, it has spent most of its time underwater.

Question is do i take to the dealer , call out LR assist or give it a dam good power wash and see if i can find any thing that looks amiss?

Manual says to reduce speed and seek qualified assistance immediatly ...course didnt have the manual with me so i only just read that. Sad

Waited till the next morning and got "Transmission range change not available"

Spent 2 hrs washing underneath ...removed plug of transferbox and sprayed with WD40.

Restarted car ..all ok ...

I had a suspension fault at one stage on the first day as well and it dropped to normal height. Was able to raise it back up, however, and then after a restart it was fine and has been since.

I still haven't done a proper job on the underside of mine from the Wilts trip. Hoping it will be dry enough tomorrow to get the Takla and stands out and get underneath to remove and clean all the plates etc and spray some WD40 or similar on all the connectors (as I alsways seem to get suspension faults when offroad Rolling Eyes )

Anyone know which TSB covered uprated connectors to prevent water ingress? I ought to check with the dealer that the work has been done.

Found it.

LTB00038 - Air Suspension Not Operating Correctly issued 05 March 2007
VIN-range: 5A000256-6A413981

The air suspension is not operating correctly, with the possibility of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1A31-01 stored.

Cause: Corrosion in the chassis harness connector C2099 (installed at the front control valve) or associated wiring, located in the right-hand front wheel arch.
NOTE: Do NOT install a new complete chassis harness for this concern.

Action: Should a customer express concern, and connector C2099 or the associated wiring has corrosion, install a new overlay harness

My D3 has just spent almost 4 days at the Dealers (now there is a whole other story) as I have had this intermittent fault for a few weeks.

They have changed the selenoid (?) and I have to go back for a replacement ECU to program it next week - apparently, it was checked with an ECU from another car and it resolved the issue but they are chassis number linked so I have to wait for my 'own one'.

the dealer can assign any new control module to your vehicle - more likely they didn't want to 'lose' one from a sales vehicle... Rolling Eyes

In a previous thread someone (I'm too daft to have noted the details) mentioned WD40 and the like removes plastizisers making the connectors brittle. Is there a safer better way ? (wrapping in tape, encapulate in foam, whatever ?)

Will my new D3 arriving next month also have this weakness ?

Yours should be fine as the TSB only covered cars up to 06 (see the VIN range for details). Yours will start with 7A or 8A depending on build date and will have the improved connectors.

I spotted the ref to WD40 too, so will settle for simply cleaning everything properly and checking with my dealer on the upgraded overlay harness as mine does fall into the VIN range.
