Travel into Wales from England |
|
I had assumed that since the Welsh firebreak has now ended, and especially once the English lockdown had ended next week, that I could travel into Wales (e.g. for recreation and in line with social distancing advice). However some info online suggests that the Welsh borders are still effectively closed? Is this really the case?
Not a political debate, please, just trying to work out if I'm going to get collared by the Heddlu if I cross the border headed to (for example) Snowdonia in December??? D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Right now, no you can't until the England lockdown ends.
After that, nobody seems to know yet.

popped to Swansea but had a valid 'Care' reason for this, but I was also told that I couldn't drive to Brecon and go walking there. So we have to wait until the 2nd has come and gone Iggy/Ieuan

Hmm okay so wait and see what happens then at the end of England lockdown - thanks for confirming. I think I'll schedule (safe) trips out just in local England then for now. It's shame as north wales is my playground for walking and MTB
Fingers crossed for the 2nd D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Tier 2 apparently! So quite germ-ridden but not as much as we were pre-lockdown apparently.
It's a bit academic for us as we get lumped in with Liverpool City Region despite only being joined to them via a tunnel. Wirral rates have always been a lot lower. D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I know how you feel!
We're in Teesdale, with some of the lowest rates in the country, but we're lumped in with Co Durham (which in turn is lumped in with the NE generally) and so are in tier 3.
Much gnashing of teeth around here

my understanding of the teiring is that it isnt just the rate, but the areas ability to cope with it, so even if you have high numbers, if you also have good hospital capacity you will be in a lower tier.

Yes there are a lot of people locally who are pretty P***ed off that they are in lock down because of a high number of cases amongst University students and imported field workers coupled to poor local hospital provision are causing a massive rural area to be in Tier3 lockdown. One of the more shocking statistics is the number of older people going into hospital without covid who are getting it inside the hospitals and then never leaving... Must stop buying shiny toys....
