Treating chassis corrosion
Hey all,
I have another thread going where i am tackling a long list of jobs to get an mot on my 04 d3. Currently removing all rear suspension arms, and wondering if i should try and treat/tidy the corroded chassis parts.
What is recommended please? Thinking it's worth me brushing something on to the exposed parts to treat or tidy it up.
Hammerite Kurust?
Also, what should i put on things like my brake caliper carrier? Anything or nothing?

Here we would put on Dinitrol, Hammerite isn’t something that’s sold here. Most likely the same stuff in different boxes from different manufacturers.
In the picture it looks like it’s mostly on the surface. You might want to take off the plastic parts - wheel wells and sill covers and take a look.....
Clean up the underside, wire brush the rust, apply rust converter, apply coating. Apply cavity wax. I’m honestly not sure if everyone does that anymore.

Just going through this process with a slightly newer LR4. Powerwashed the underside today, then cleaned it with rag and hot soapy water. Got a ton of gunk out from the chassis rails. Crap sits in those places so you need to get your hands in there and scoop it out. I ran water inside the chassis rails until it flowed clear (washed out a load more mud).
Tonight the vehicle is sitting with a couple of dehumidifiers blowing away and tomorrow I'll be doing exactly what Kajtzu said: wire brush on a drill attacking the rush, then coating with Hydrate 80, which I've found to be an excellent rust converter. It takes 2 coats to sort the rust, then paint with a decent enamel and keep an eye on it. I'll spray Dynax X50 into the cavities at the end of the process. Then repeat occasionally.PAGODA

I gave my chassis a good clean with strong traffic film remover and a stiff nylon brush and then left it to dry, i then went over it with a wire brush to remove the loose stuff and then applied Fertan rust converter.
You can leave it for up to 9 months befire applying top coat, i left mine for about 2 months before washing it off and drying again and spraying it with chassis black

I'd be more concerned about the rust on the boot floor than the chassisSeries one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
LR 90 - In bits
Disco 3 - currently in bits
