Hi kerbie,

very common issue - usually battery running out of life. Had exactly this and replaced the old battery with the new 950 amp battery which has been uprated because of this very issue. Cost me £126 from a main dealer, which is about £10 over the going rate

thanks Zac...
been reading old posts related to issue...and seems to be...if in doubt ..change the battery...land rover assist did come out when i had the problem with the starter and he probably killed the battery when trying to get the car to start.
I read that there is a secret button on sat nav screen that tells me life in the existing battery..could anyone advise as to locate it...or is it a mission?

with the key in position II, press the right hand hard button under the sat nav screen.
When the homw screen appears press and hold top dead centre for about 5 seconds, then release.

Then press and hold the left hard button for about 5 seconds or until a pop up box appears asling for a pin, enter 753 and press enter.

Then a screen with lots of on screen buttons will appear, select vehicle inputs, at the top of the next screen will be the voltage.

Mine with a new battery reads 12 volts, this drops tp 11.5volts when I start & then goes to 12.5 volts with engine running.

It is hard to say, if you call in your local dealer they have a special machine that can tell straight away if it is ok.

Mine was 4 years old last sept, so I went and bought a new one any way ready for the hard winter.

The dealer tested mine & said it was ok but didnt have much life left in it.

£127 from dealer or cheaper, but not necessarily better, on fleabay.

Hi Kerbie,
I think that 11.5V is very suss.

My D3 wouldn't fire in Sydney's spring. Battery was at 11.3V. I think that you need to consider:
1. A recharge, and/or
2. a replacement.

Best Wishes,
Peter

battery voltage

I just checked mines with a multimeter, and it was 12.4Volts after sitting for a couple of days unused on a cold damp morning, and it shoots up to 13.8 volts, with the engine idling and the alternater starts charging it.
Battery is 4 years old and Ive had no starting problems ....This might give you an idea of what is "good" Thumbs Up

Hi all

I'm having trouble too, currently car will not start at all. Eventually have flattened the battery. Battery us only 2 years old. When on good battery or jump leads. Car turns over fine and fires on what seems to be only a couple of cylinders but will not run had this a few days ago but did start eventually but really lumpy until warm.(with a puff of diesel smoke out the rear end) I'm currently in Austrian alps so have limited resources. My original thought was glow plugs?? It is showing -9 on dash.

Any thoughts want to leave early morning when we head home and it may be pretty cold

It starts and runs fine when warm

Hi mat,
Is it an OEM battery? If so, it should have 950CCA.

If not, it may just be underpowered and not suited to winter conditions.

HTH,
Peter

Have you made sure to turn the key to position II and wait for the coil light to go out?

I had the same problem when in a rush to start the engine on a cold morning, but just waiting for the coil light to go out solved it!
