Trying to install oval timer? wiring query |

I have decided to fit my FBH oval timer but have come across a problem .
In the instructions it tells me to fit the control wire to pin position 2 of the connector but my connector has a red wire already fitted in this pin?????
any idea? these are what i have
Pin 2- red
pin 4-yellow/blue trace
pin 5- white/blue trace
pin 7- yellow/white trace

The early models had a use for pin 2 but you can re-use it for the timer install. Chase the cable as far back into the loom as you sensibly can and snip it. You now have a ready to use cable and connector for the timer to use.
I fink this means that you might have a pre-W bus FBH and can therefore use the other contact out of the 1533 timer Club missing my D3

Cut the red wire in Pin 2 and attach your signal wire from your 1533 timer to the cut red wire which goes in to the heater plug - I did this last week, all working fine!
Just tape the other end of the red wire up and tuck it away. 2014 D4 XS

You don't need all four connections, if you test your set up first to see if you need the WBUS or OUT connections on the timer to the FBH this will make it easier.
I just used connector block to try it all out before installing it all neatly. Only needed to deal with 3 connections then
I used a piece of 1mm 3core cable to take the 12v from the battery to the other side of the engine bay where my box of tricks is (timer, RF receiver) and then the 3rd core of the cable takes the WBUS signal from the 1533 to the FBH connector. 2014 D4 XS

The FBH is either a OUT or a W Bus.
You will only need 3 connections - it's a question of making sure that you have the correct 3 connections!
By MY06, the FBHs were W Bus, but the red wire had disappeared too. I have no doubt that 100s of vehicles were in the no mans land between OUT and W Bus Club missing my D3

mine's an '06 MY, has the red wire installed and requires the w-bus signal for the FBH to function.
I just 'scotch-locked' onto the red wire from the 1533 W-bus output ( no snipping required ) and it's been working happily for 3+ years and theeeeennn......???

So if all the fbh needs to make fun is the red wire at pin two fitted to live, why could you not fit a switch to it with a ignition live?
