Turbo !!
My D4 had its 2 year service today and i asked them to look at the black smoke exhausted on hard acceleration, i have got to say the smoke wasn't excessive but i noticed it at chrimbo time while swmbo was driving, and i was behind in my van, so i asked the dealer to check it out while it was in for the service.
And yes primary turbo needs replacing but I am relieved it's been found now, and not after the warranty has expired, could have been expensive.
Has anyone else had this done, and is it a body off job ?MY18 D5 HSE LUX😎

I had heard that it was a body off job, but that may be wrong or it's changed. If body off we need pics please. 8)

All a lot slower in both of my turbo replacements, involved extended warranty companies so a few hoops to jump through. LR shoud be faster as they'll be providing you with a replacement car.

On my original D4 had the turbo replaced twice for same reason, still smoked and eventually had the engine, both turbos and sevral other parts replaced. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Dropped the Disco off this morn and they had no record of me coming
But after digging out the paper copy of the inspection report,,,,,,, my disco was admitted to their casualty department,
I had a little wait as they had no courtesy cars available so had to wait for the hire car company to bring one....
And eventually they turned up ................... with an Autobiography RR Sport

Got my D4 back today after 15 days they sorted the turbo and intercooler problem last friday but then was unable to lock the car (double bleep on locking ) any way got the call today after 3 days of looking for the fault and starting to remove wiring looms, they found the problem ..... loose connection on the antenna in the roof.
Maybe one to watch for in the future .
And SWMBO and the kids really didn't want to let the Autobiography Sport courtesy car go... twas nice with all the extra toys .... But is nice to get rid of the 20" pimp wheels cos they where C P in the snow and get back to my GG AT's something sure under foot

Mine goes in Tuesday for potential turbo replacement! The underside is black with an oil leak picked up during a service today at my local indy. Hopefully won't have it 15 days! They said a few days (I'm thinking 2 or 3)......... We'll see!

They told me 3 days Skep but then had to wait a week for the turbo !!
And now my remote webasto option fitted by Pete @ BAS doesn't work they must have set the car back to the factory settings

Another confirmed member of "Club Faulty Turbo". Went in this morning and have confirmed what my local garage has told them that its f d! 9 hours to strip and 9 hours to rebuild!.......Theoretically!

It's confirming a lot of peoples theories that D3's and D4's are damn expensive vehicles to run and maintain out of warranty. Not just a JLR issue for sure, most modern turbo diesel engines seem to have these reliability problems.
Time to go back to basics with engine design and actually make things that are designed to last, the 300tdi was a really robust engine and the TD5 even more so. What's gone wrong?

That's the polite name, otherwise known as Club Fooked Turbo. A vernable institute with an expanding membership.
Well I dropped it off at Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield on Monday evening, and got it back this morning without a spanner touching it! They can't get a turbo for a couple of weeks so it's booked in again in the second week of march! As much as I wanted it sorted I'm glad I'm not without it for a few weeks! Hopefully all parts will be ready next time it goes in!
