So, after 1 hour under the car freezing my bits, I managed to change the whole bypass assembly. The most difficult part was removing the hoses from the unit, otherwise, it was pretty straight forward.
After the work, my baby is back to full health. She pulls hard again, no more limp modes and strangely, it seems to have fixed my timed climate!
Really pleased.

Are the two valves the same design? Maybe it's the photo but they appear to have different construcción.

Ok folks, after frequently getting this error: "P1247-00 (2F) Turbocharger boost pressure low" on the old girl over the last few days. I've done a search and found this thread.
Took me a while to find the blessed by-pass valve, mainly due to the fact I was looking at the passenger side wheel arch instead of the driver side
But tracks it down and am just wondering which be to liberally spray with WD40. Is it the top bit of the connecting bar between the round cylinder (actuator) where it connects to the main body, the bit the red arrow is pointing at in the picture below?
Oh, shameless copy from Mambosasa - thank you for the pic chap LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
