I was lucky TBH, lived with mine for a few weeks, even drove 100miles to the SE Xmas meal, next day she started, but applied throttle it shut down......low loader to dealer for New Year, back mid February.
Mine was warrenty, so no idea of costs, perhaps a pm to Disco Mikey as he does them.

AS has been said the VVT vanes stick, and it overboosts and gets shut down to protect the engine. Turning it off and on again does reset it, but is never a permanent cure and it will only gend up getting worse. At work we tried on about 4 different vans a turbo cleaning kit that is designed to break down the gunnk/carbon build up that causes the vanes to stick. It was successful and was done in situ. Obviously I don't know how easy it would be to pull off turbo pipes and do it on a D3. We offered it as at the time it was £1500 plus VAT for a new turbo or £200 with no come back if it didn't fix it. None of them ever came back with the same problems. Haven't done them for a while as turbo prices came down a lot when we could use exchange units instead.
I personally wouldn't want to do 1,000 miles on a turbo that was overboosting and shutting itself down. Wort case scenario is that it will shut down quicker and quicker the longer you leave it.

I will have a look in the parts department now. I know we had one kit left last year as it never sold and we were trying to find information about it ourselves.

Ok, could maybe try it but I have read here and there that if it does work once you do it, it only last for so long, maybe 5000 miles
then you said you did not have problems afterwards... might give it a shot
Has anyone open a turbo and check if it could be cleaned, rather than changed ?l=Oo\________/oO=l l:Ool======loO:l

To a point it must be possible to do something with it as we have people coming round offering to buy our old non-exchange turbos from us as they can fix them and sell them on. How much can you get the Innotec kit for? Might be worth giving it a go if it will get you to Billing and back.

No news from innotec
my local trusty independant offer to lean the turbo with a special system that doesn't require taking it off.
only drawback it is not waranty to work, and if it does it is temporary
that will let me go to billing so might try that tomorow evening
cheers for your replies ladsl=Oo\________/oO=l l:Ool======loO:l

The dealer has been conferring with Land Rover as to what the problem is/maybe given the symptoms and fault codes I had. Net result is a new turbo has be fitted.
Lets hope this has fixed the problem.
I will try and get the cost answer for you tomorrow VeryDisco. For details on the next Kielder Safari click visit the Kielder Safari website
