I haven't had my car chipped, but I can see why people do, especially if it eliminates the turbo lag. This is the reason why the TDV8 is such a lovely engine. Extra torque from the TDV6 must make it even nicer to drive. I don't think it is a boy racer thing, nor a financial one. But like you I would be worried about the warranty.

I have an 07my. I was unhappy with the response of the engine/ gearbox when I put my foot down. Day i picked it up I got caught out at a round about - put my foot down to get out in front of traffic and it gently idled out in front of a Santa Fe until it finally decided it was going to accelerate properly about 3 seconds later. Since then I've checked it against the dealers 06 MY and mine responed slower. They also checked it against another 07 MY when they got one in and it was identical- that too was marginally slower than the 06 to respond. Once it actually decides to accelerate its great. Its just the waiting around that freaks me. As my best mate is the service manager it was he who checked it against the other 07. He went back to LR on it. Forgot to check if he had got a response. Aside from that - very happy. Its been very dirty a few times...............

I also have an '07MY vehicle and to compare it with an '06 is like chalk and cheese (that tastes similar to chalk)!
The response time is much better and have not found it wanting except for the odd occasion when the auto-box finds itself in the wrong gear in certain situations. (Is my "intelligent" gearbox thick?)
These situations can generally be pre-empted once you get used to the way the vehicle behaves.
Sometimes for town driving I put it in sports mode and, as it hangs on to gears longer and changes down quicker, it is much better, especially for a quick burst to nip out at junctions etc.

Or read posts more carefully Laughing

Still cheaper here than Carnforth though, if I got the correct Carnforth that is.

What do you mean? The price here is 88.9 and 92.9 so that is 18p per gallon!

FUEL COSTS

Dear LT-the point I am trying to make is that with diesel about 20p a gallon dearer than petrol, chipping a TDV6 is nearly as costly as running the V8.I think also that the diesel costs more to service, and with very few V8's being sold the depreciation difference will be very slight.I think also that you will pay more insurance for a chipped car and will nullify the warranty.

I thought that LT thought that you were saying that diesel is 18p per LITRE more expensive in your area!

Oooh! I've confused myself now!
