Before I bought mine I thought that I would probably have it chipped after taking an '06 model out for a test-drive.
However, my '07 model is much quicker, more responsive and generally better sorted than the demo car. I can't believe that the engine puts out the same power!
I don't think I'll bother having it chipped as I like it as it is.

However...

If someone has their '07 model chipped and they report an improvement then I may be persuaded. Wink

I'm a great believer in the Turbochip and have nothing but praise for the effect on my 06MY. Razz

I might be getting an 07 in a couple of months and I reckon it will get the same treatment. I have been advised that, although the standard 07 is quicker than the 06, it still won't keep up with my TCd 06. Crying or Very sad

It wouldn't bother me too much, but since SWMBO will get my 06, I couldn't suffer hers being quicker than mine Laughing

Keep me posted on that one JMC. I'd be interested to learn of your findings.

Well anyway, IMHO I think it's miles better than the '06 model that I drove first.

07 cars can be chipped but not currently diagnostically via the OBD port. In other words ecu has to be removed and is 'bench flashed' using connections to the ecu.

07 cars do indeed have completely different engine maps to the 06 cars to improve engine response and pick-up but they can certainly be chipped Smile

Does this mean we can get dealers to change the settings on our 06 models?

There is no technical reason why 06 cars cannot have the engine management upgraded to 07 specification but whether Land Rover choose to do this for free is another matter.

Wouldn't it be nice if LR took a leaf out of the Mercedes book. Brabus, amongst a host of enhancements, do remaps of some MB models. These are available either direct from Brabus or via some MB dealers.

The major point is that under this arrangement the vehicle warranty remains intact. A fact stated by both MB and Brabus.

If LR offered some such arrangement I would certainly buy a remap. As it stands I'm too worried about warranty implication to go ahead. I've had the rear diff and transfer box replaced under warranty. I wonder if that would have happened without argument if my car had been chipped. My car was driven by a LR technical rep prior to this work. Whilst he didn't comment on warranty issues he did say that he'd driven customer cars that were obviously chipped. The remap might be invisible from a software perspective, but it certainly isn't during a test drive!
