No sound, no volume control, 'phone removed' |
|
So I've got a bit of an annoying fault with the stereo in my D3. I've read a few other threads but couldn't find one that met my symptoms.
Most times when I get in the car there is not sound from the speakers, and the volume control won't cause the numbers to go up or down on the screen. I can change station, AUX, CD etc but nothing else. Quite often when I glance at the radio screen when it's not working it will display 'Phone Removed' even though my phone isn't connected.
Sometimes it works, and sometimes after about 10 minutes driving it will suddenly start working and work for the rest of the journey. My sat nav screen works as it should.
Any pointers as to where to start?

I'd start with the Bluetooth module in the boot...if it has no power or the MOST connector (fibre) is loose you will get exactly what you describe.

Thanks, that's a good starting point. I'll have a hunt around for guide - electronics aren't my forte!

You need to chevk the connections of all the parts connected to the most circuit as it does sound as you have a break/loose connection somewhere Discovery 3 se gone

Thanks, will do! I presume I can isolate modules on the 'loop' by just connecting the cables?
Tried to read fault codes this evening but none are showing, so will work through it over the weekend.

Well I started to check a few things this morning but as I have a famous impatience with electronics/fibre optics etc I'm going to find a specialist to do it

Hi
Not yet as I haven't been able to get it booked in for a while. I've ordered a MOST loop to see what I can find

Glad you got it sorted
My MOST loop is due tomorrow. So in typical fashion, the radio has worked perfectly all day today after 3 weeks of silence

Sounds like a break in the fibre optic system.
After I replaced the AMP the Radio, AUX, CD player all worked great but the phone still didn't work. However unlike you I had an orange light at the Bluetooth module but the phone would not work so I purchased another Bluetooth module (same type D3) on EBay and happy days the phone worked.

Afraid I can't add anything, 8 weeks on and the radio is still working fine I have no idea what made it burst back into life after weeks of silence.
I think it was/is my bluetooth module - it still comes up with 'phone removed' when i start the car, I haven't tried to connect my phone again and it's working so I'll leave it be!

Well I've worked out what it is, tore the car to pieces following the MOST circuit and found a break in the fibre optics at the amp, so put a loop in all back working except radio so needn't to replace the AMP. All sorted,
Thanks for the info though

Right - my radio is now on the blink again, so time to get the loop out and do some investigating.
Does anyone know the route of the MOST circuit? Am I right in thinking it goes from start:
headunit - sat nav screen - cd changer - phone module - rear seat entertainment module - TMC- amp?
Any help gratefully received
