TVD6 Auto Diff Oil change or Flushing? Please advise

Hi Folks,

Please I need an advise as I'm considering what better option to take. I've read a few bits and pieces here and on other internet sites for and against flushing.

please note that I don't currently have any issue with my gearbox but just want to do the needful as a preventive measure given my current high mileage ( 180+).

Main point I read against flushing being that some of the particles would be stuck on the filters leading to issues but then, not getting refill diff oil quantity right during changes also has it's associated issue.

Cheers,

Mo

I am rather confused, are you referring to your main auto gearbox, or the differentials which are in the front & rear axles and indeed the transfer box?

Please pardon my ignorance and excuse my stupidity- I'm a complete novice Whistle

I honestly thought they are the same thing and more confused now Confused Embarassed .

Does that mean I need to flush my gearbox and also change the differential oil?
Please put me straight.

You have the automatic gearbox which feeds into the transfer gearbox which has a built in diff, these then feed via two propshafts to the front and rear diffs, so thats 4 different components with three different oils, 4 different oils if you have a locking read E diff.

If your auto box is good a simple drop and refill oil change will do just fine
Transfer box needs special land rover oil from the dealers
Diffs synthetic 75/90 Syntrans is what people seem to use but in reality and quality syn oil of the right viscosity will do just fine.

Few minutes on youtube will give you the basics of whats what.

Thanks for the info!

Geoff helped flushed the Automatic gear box yesterday- top-job Thumbs Up Thumbs Up . Now left with the Transfer case, Front and rear differentials to sort out.

Really appreciate the forum and thanks to all the pros that makes it tick Thumbs Up Thumbs Up .
