Two problems at once.

Good morning All.
Just picked up my LR3 from long term parking place by the Airport after a 10 day vacation and two things happened at once. gear shift comes out of P into Neutral without pressing the button on the knob, That happened t me twice on the way home and rear upper hatch does not open. I am able to press Lock and lock buttons o the console and it pops, but when pressing the mechanism under rear handle nothing happens, can't hear anything. I don't think, they both related, but wh knows She's an old Lady...
What do you guys think...typical gear pivot issue on first or something else needs to be addressed..stuck latches on second problem or rubberized button caput ? Thanks in advance.

I had the rear hatch issue recently and I solved it with a purchase from ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Disc...2075748781

There are loads of threads on the matter and I bought this off the back of one of those threads.

Afraid I can't help with the other matter.

Thanks.
It is definitely not an actuator in the lower part of the gate as an emergency push of lock and unlock button releases it partially. Could be a upper gate button on the rear hatch. It is weird, that it happened after a 10 day parking.

With regards your first problem, did you mean instead to say that the automatic gearbox went from Drive to Neutral (rather than Park to Neutral) twice on the way home.

If that is the case then the problem is likely to be due to the auto gearbox linkage corroding and becoming stiff and not properly engaging Drive when the lever is put into this position.

This can be particularly noticeable if the vehicle has not been used for a number of days. The auto gearbox linkage requires to be lubricated and/or parts in linkage replaced. This is a frequent problem see https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/autobox-gea...31656.html

Your second problem is likely to be due to water getting past the rubber cover (usually due to the use of a pressure washer) on the upper tailgate switch and corroding the contact plate under the rubber cover, that operates the microswitch. see https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/tailgate-no...66951.html

As a temporary measure it may be possible to remove the switch assembly from the handle and clean it (I have done this in the past).

It was the case (and probably still is) the LR parts system for a LR3/Discovery 3 required the complete switch/handle/number plate light assembly and case to be purchased as the replacement part (as the switch is wired into the same connector as the number plate lights). However, the switch is available on its own for the Range Rover Sport part number YUZ500020 (you would have to cut the cables on the old switch to remove it and connect on the new switch removing the connector it comes with).

Boot switch

Hi I recently had the same problem and bought a replacement switch from eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Tailgate-D...2749.l2649

Instead of cutting and joining wires I de-pinned the wires from the plug on the new switch and wired it into the OEM plug.

Thanks.
aNOTHER, how did you de pin the new wider connector ? I could do that too as replacement is available, but clearly new part fits Discovery 4, not 3 as it is defiantly different plug and has four wires coming out instead of three.

Two of the wires use the same pin but you only need the switch pins

Take out the locking plate picture white on the eBay item and then you can see a tab holding the pin in push this back to the plug wall with a sewing needle and pull the wire. Its fiddly so you may need a few attempts to succeed. You can by de-pinning kits off amazon which I did but then again I had a lot of de-pinning to do.

Here's a vid to show ya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjWGsfZEcyM
