Tyre noise..

I’ve just bought a spare set of tyres and wheels used, General Grabber AT 255/55/19 all around 5mm tread depth. They are seriously noisy, we drove 300 miles on them last night, it was almost annoying how noisy they were. It is worst at around 40-55 after this they go quiet. They feel good, to be honest, drive better than the previous contis.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t normal, it didn’t do it on the Contis it had on before, what could cause this? I wonder if it could be down to the previous owners alignment being different to mine..

Does anyone have any ideas?[/url]

I haven't used ATs but fair few peeps on here complain about the nose, esp once they are getting low, and 5mm would be low. There is a solution, turn the radio up. Thumbs Up

Out of interest what do they come with tread wise when New? I was told they were 5mm but they look in seriously good nick, I was quite happy until the noise started.

But turning the radio up works for me, perfect solution! Thanks Mr. Green

The Grabber AT comes with about 10mm when new, if I remember correctly. I found two sets both got noisy as they wore, well before 5mm was left too.

The AT3, on the other hand, is proving to be a much quieter proposition, better on road and as good off road (in my limited experience with the AT3).

I used some up to more than 60000 km, they were removed even with life available in them, and I think that is the cause, they become very hard with use and they become horribly noisy immediately, I come to hate them!!! then, for me, General tyres never more!
 lost in translation!
