The R differentiates the ATR from the AT is all marketing there was a fear with AT tyres that they Censored on road The Marketing blurb is that the ATR performs both on and off road. For once they are right

AT is a tyre type - All Terrain
ATR is Pirelli's model name for an AT tyre they produce

Same as MT is a type - Mud Terrain and MTR is Goodyears model name for an MT tyre they produce

Oh oh, he's asked that question again...

I asked the same question - there's tonnes of opinions here on the forum though what is great is that lots of people have experience with all three tyres - BFG A/T, Grabber AT2 and Pirelli ATR so reading through the vast posts on the topic should give you some idea of what people liked/didn't like and then I guess it's down to you to go with what sounds best for your situation.

My own situation is that I have 19 inch wheels so my choice was limited to the Pirelli ATRs. I couldn't afford a set of 18 inch alloys so that was that.

My past Landrovers have had BF Goodrich A/T and I liked them but they don't do them in 19" (as far as I know at least).

Hope that helps?
Matt

Hi MAtt,

Thanks for that - how do the ATR's perform in low-medium off road situations?

Its mainly for my bro who has a FFRRS but the other shootists just laugh at him slipping in the mud on his 20'' dealer wheels.

He has a set of 19'' rims but loves the look of my BFG AT2's!

Just trying to point him in the right direction.

Hi Dave,

I only had them fitted last week so I've driven in some snow (they were excellent) but not off-road.

I have a place (in a field) where my Scorpion Zeros got stuck so when I go back there I'll be able to do a comparison.

Sorry I can't help any more than that though I'm sure others on here have used ATRs off-road?

I'm pretty sure that for most "low-medium" off road situations, by which I guess you mean a bit of mud (6 inches deep), rough tracks, grassy field on a hill-side but nothing extreme, then any of the AT-type tyres is going to be a massive improvement over road-biased tyres.

Think you can only get AT2's on 18 inch wheels, and not sure if they would clear his brakes?

ATR's are a great option for 19 inch wheels - I've been pleased with them on mud and snow. Another option for 19 inch wheels that looks good and works even better in mud is MT/R's

Yes I tried to get him to go for the MTR but he wants a trade off between the road / medium off road use.

But many thanks for the recommendation!

If he wants to stay with 20" wheels, why not got for the Cooper LTZs?
