I have two sets of wheels with my D3. Currently it is running around on 19" rims with new Scorpion Zeros. The other wheels are also 19" rims but with what I assume to be the original Wranglers on there in various degrees of mauling.
I am off to the Alps skiing first week in February (yippee!!) and as I now have a suitable vehicle will be driving rather than flying in fruit products. I wish to put a more suitable set of tyres on the other wheels for use in the alps and long term for mild off roading.
I have done a bit of a search on here as to what my options are but none of them seem terribly clear / recent. Anyone got any experience of suitable tyres or should i just stick on some more of the original wranglers. Ideally I would go for a set of B F Goodriches or secondly Michelins but available size seems to be an issue.
Either way the scorpion zeros don't "look" quite right for anything other than tarmac!

PS Is their any solution other than turning the lights off / programming the key to disable the follow me home lights as mine are annoying my neighbours while not helping me at all!end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

You will be surprised at the capability of your zero's off-road..but for something a little more agressive try Good Year MT\R's 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Vredesteig (sp?) do a good Mud and Snow Tyre which doesn't look too aggressive so i would imagine are still pretty quiet on the road but i believe they are quite hard to get hold of at the moment

thanks for that, you are probably right about the scorpions doing the job however when you are pretty inexperienced at really being able to drive the vehicle every little bit helps
....asking as I don't really know....but just how much does the performance of tyres degrade in colder weather? Is a winter tyre a real benefit or does a road/mud tyre do alright? The weight of a D3 and icy roads does worry me a bit.
I do know that on my defender I latterly had BFG M/T's which were awesome unless it was mildly damp and greasy or icy in which case they were lethal!!
Send of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

I can second that the Zero's will cope fine. We go down to the Alps x 3-4 year and find that they are quiet for the AutoRoutes and still remarkably effective in 2-3 ft of snow. Currently Kwik Fits offering sensible reductions if you reboot with 3-4 tyres - just had 3 replaced for £431. Mind you the snow needs to get it's act together, off for a weekend shortly (flying not driving) and its not great yet in Montalbert!

For the follow-me-homes...seems like there would be, but I haven't found a way to disable them. I turn my lights off before the ignition off, course if you use auto lights that might be annoying.I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

yes, do use the auto lights as I am lazy......turning them off being an effort and means there are likely to be situations where lights don't get turned as both SWMBO and my cars have auto lights.
by the way not a problem on SWMBO's car as that uses its fog lights and not teh headlamps for the follow me home lights and they upset nobody as they are set low.......they obviously thought about it a bit more end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Spotter you can set how long the follow me home lights stay on in 30 second intervals up to 4 minutes, you can also turn them off alltogether. To do this you need to go into the settings menu which you do whilst the ignition is on but the car is not in motion by pressing the 'i' button on the end of the left hand stalk until you see the word 'Settings' in the display in front of the driver. Then follow the instructions on the screen using the radio buttons on the steering wheel unto you get the option you want to alter.

There is no off option for the follow me homes, 30 sec is the minimum setting.
Just program the LR button on the key to switch them on/off and turn them off with that if you don't want them on for 30 secsThe End
