unlock features/hacks
Hi all,
First post as a newbie D4 owner. I was chatting with a friend at work who told me there are ways of unlocking features on a D4 that would otherwise be hidden. He reckoned that the software is all the same it just depends what has been enabled at the factory based on spec HSE, XS etc. I'm a little dubious on this as can't see it being quite that straight forward, any thoughts or experience on this?
Thanks everyone

features??
HI, a tantalising response; any idea what these features are?
yes ... things can be enabled but depends on your vehicle spec. software roughly same but you need the hardware to have been fitted. (e.g. reversing camera ... even if you can enable it if not present, what would be the point ?)
I've had voice control and 4x4 info enabled, so I can call the wife on the phone just by name and tell which way my wheels point !

silly question alert!
I'll get shot down for this one but here goes...Is the remote cabin climate control a feature that can be unlocked? How do I find out what can be enabled?

I have enabled voice, 4x4 info as already mentioned on my 2010 XS and also the timed climate control and later added the remote option for this (which I now consider a must have option), I have also added follow me home reverse lights to the headlights it already has as standard.
To do this you do need a suitable diagnostic tool, or use your local site sponsor that can do it for you.
Welcome by the way.Andy

typically on a D4 XS, I mostly enable and fit rear camera, timed/remote park heater (by far the most popular D4 update with or without remote kit), 4x4 info screen. Bodsys Brake Bible

remote climate
Hi,
how does the remote climate system work? can it heat without the engine running and is the hardware required likely to be on my xs? apologies for the obvious gaps in my knowledge.
2011 D4 XS - OBD port protection, RLD spare wheel protector, All LED interiors lights, Timed Climate enabled, iiD tool paired.
2011 D4 Landmark - Stolen from same dealer before I paid for it
2011 D4 GS - Stolen whilst at dealer ... All LED interiors lights, DRLs, Spare Wheel protector.

Your Discovery will have a fuel burning heater that comes on below a set temperature when you start the car, but with the remote or the timed climate option via the sat nav screen, you can make this run when needed.
It runs without the engine and uses the diesel in the tank, but it will only work when there is sufficient diesel and battery power, to avoid you being stranded!
Timed climate will just need activating, whilst the remote needs an additional unit and ariel, plus the remote. Bodsy supplied mine and I fitted it myself and then activated it via my IID tool, all straightforward (as I managed it and I'm clueless!).Andy

thanks for some great replies, how much does it cost for the diagnostic tool to switch on the timed climate function? not too worried about remote, cheers
