Upgradeing Front Recovery point for "snatchem" loa

Does anyone know if the mounts for the standard recovery point are strong enough/well attached enough to replace with a rated point for the use of snatchem straps ? I don't really want to put a ARB bar on the car but do want it equiped to allow snatch both front and rear.

I'm confused on your question. The stock recovery points are extremely strong. You want to replace them? What do you mean by a "rated point"? Have you had an issue using a recovery strap with the stock point?

From what I read once and this was quoted as being from a LR guy...

You can hang the D3 from its front recovery point... its immensely strong. And then you could hang another off the rear one.

True I know not, but never the less pulling a D3 by its recovery points will not break it. Why change ?

The manual is quite clear that the front (in particular) towing eye "is provided for on-road recovery". I am quite sure that non-snatchem recovery with a winch or similar would be fine but given what the manual says and the extreme stress's (and potential danger if a snatchem anchorage lets go) am assuming that it is not suitable for that purpose.

I would want definate answers, pulling out with a strop is one thing a kinetic rope is a different ball game, a great way to pull the front of your car off, or the rear. The forces of dangling a weight are again different to a quick snatch. Shocked

I agree Pelyma, I 'lost' the rear of my 2a in a snatch recovery by a Unimog a few years ago!

Please note the ARB BB doesn't come with any recovery points.

Maybe they can be added on a special order.

Yes that is right but haveing had a bit of a look in detail at one of the bars they have a box section with "airbag" crumple zone built into them fairly well attached to the vehicle. What I had in mind if I have to go this route was to drill the ARB Bar, Install a plate behind the bar and attach a rated eye through the bar.

Have to say though haveing been up into the area on Friday that I am most likely to use the vehicle at the moment that I would have to try very very hard to get stuck so bad I can not get it out. It is such a competent vehicle I am totally astounded.

Vo Rogue,

If you decide to go with the ARB BB then ask ARB if they will build the bar with recovery hooks.

Drilling the bar will void their warranty and also the position you place a recovery eye might not be the right place. Just a thought.
