Upgrading base stereo on a D3

Well after 7 years of looking at it I decided to up grade my base stereo but I wanted to keep the Discovery look so I went from this standard base

To this

Before people start jumping up and down saying it won't work....

It does work and sounds perfect.
It's a CD 560 single CD out of a base Range Rover sport. It has a MOST connection at the rear and can be connected to a phone. But the front panel needed to be changed to fit a Discovery
Info that BBS SPY provided in various treads here years ago gave me the idea to try it.

No amp needed. Plug and play.
But this is still a single CD stereo
The front is slightly deeper than a D3 so I swapped the front panel from a CD465. You could cut it but I just changed it. I also tried fitting the 6 disc from the CD465 but I couldn't get it to work.
Si in effect this is almost the same as the base unit but looks like the upper level.

DSL I haven't given up on using yours yet. I have a few more trials to do. I took your 465 apart and put the circuit board of the 560 into it. Radio works perfectly but I couldn't load CDs. I need to try a few more things with it.

Correct you don't get much except for the looks. I guess it's the same as anyone changing wheels or changing the front end of a D3 to look like a D4 etc etc. But I guess if we didn't want even cosmetic updates we would all be driving around in Defenders or a series 1.
I had hoped to convert it to a 6 disc but I haven't got that to work yet. Sad
There are some other things, it has a button for the phone and it has a connection on the back for a MOST cable so those might be options someone else might like to explore. Must check what a Range Rover with that stereo had. For me this is a screwdriver only plug and play update. i.e. No soldering iron, no cutting cables. I did tinker with a few CCF settings but the radio and sound worked without needing to do anything.

You need a 6CD-565 to get the inbuilt 6 stacker.

Hi as far as I know the CD 565 is a hi line so it has a separate amp under the drivers seat like a CD 465 If not, if it's still a base stereo with a built in amp that would be a perfect fit for a D3.

Just looked on line and the CD565 was fitted to the HSE so it would have a separate amp, that wouldn't work in a D3 with the base stereo Sad

True, and a fair bit of it was cut out when connectors wouldn't play ball. Thumbs Up

For the effort you'd be better off putting in a modern head unit with USB/ SD inputs and leave the CDs near the record player Very Happy
