Thanks everyone for your help with this, but alas it just wasn't to be.

Reason the order couldn't be changed was that it rolled off the line this morning.
Ok so I REALLY wanted DiffLock, but now I know it's finished I REALLY want to have it delivered! Smile
Roll on early March!

Hijack alert..... Sorry Bodsy.

I've been thinking about the active diff lock when it comes to getting my car and I've come to the following conclusion:

If I have the ADL I'm more likely to push the car to its limits. Whilst this will doubtless be fun, it is likely to increase the risk of damage because, hey, the sort of situations where you need an ADL are intrinsically more risky for the vehicle.

Now I'm not going to pretend I can afford to repair and or replace on a regular basis so I figure I'll be going with a standard D3, finding it's limits and making a judgement if I ever want to go beyond those limits once I've experienced them. If I do, then I am more likely to get something loony like a V8 90 with a lift kit and ARB lockers for the more extreme stuff, keeping the D3 for the less extreme days.

To the Morocco crews, did you all have ADL fitted? If so, how often did you need it and would a winch have also got you out, albeit more slowly?

All this thought is going into this as I doubt I will be able to find an unregistered 06 sitting around with the colours I want AND and Active Diff Lock..... but the prices on these last remaining 06 cars make them hard to refuse!

Original date of delivery was to be mid Feb. I assume the dealer was going to put the window tint & towbar on(from original order) after they received it in Jan & then I told them may as well wait til March to get the new reg plate. Try to hold on to as much value as possible given how swift the depreciation will be! Smile

NoDo$h, No problem hi-jacking. Smile

I understand where you're coming from, but it's my competitive edge, if other D3s are getting through it (and I take into account that I really DON'T want to damage my expensive car) then I want to be able to get through it as easily and as painless as possible too!

Having said that, it seems a pretty damned fine offroader as it is, I can always get a winch as you sugest 'just in case' Smile

I doubt too many of us could buy D3s if we didn't have a competitive spirit....

You forgot that you also need more gadgets than the next driver, cos he who dies with the most toys, wins!

I've got the rear locker fitted, Andrew and TFC didn't (though they both have on their new D3s). Can't comment on if it was definitely needed or not, as it's operates automatically you have not control over it and other then looking at the little padlock you don't really know if it's working, even then that just tells you it's active not how locked it is (don't forget it's progressive so may not be fully applied, it's not just a matter of locked or unlocked). I was with TFC for the entire time and can't recall an occasion when it was obviously making a difference but there again I don't know if he was having to give his D3 a bit more stick to get the TC to do it's stuff in terrain I was more able through.
If you've got both fitted the rear locker is active more often than the centre one (if the padlocks on the 4x4 info display are to be believed), it's in cross axle type situations you really notice the difference, a D3 with the rear locker will just 'walk' through where as one with out it fitted will need to use some revs to get the TC to kick in an help it through.
Personally I'd say, if you're ordering a D3 and intend to take it off road a fair bit I'd spend the extra £500 and get it fitted, but... you'll still have loads of fun and get everywhere anyway if you don't Very Happy

Slimer, you star Thumbs Up Thanks matey.

I think the amount of offroad will be limited to soggy fields and the odd weekend of hedonistic excess (like Salisbury) and can live the the MORE POWER! approach of using the TC if I have to.

If I can get an 06 that's knocking around unsold with the ADL I'll have it, but if not and I can get one that meets all the other boxes on the ticklist then I won't bother. Obviously if I can't get an unregistered 06 that meets the rest of the ticklist then I'll factory order an 07 with the ADL and live with paying the extra(for an 07 the dealer isn't on incentive to clear) . That will leave me talking nicely to the dealer about a sale and buyback on any used 7-seater he has knocking around while I wait for Solihull to do their magic. Russ at Perrys has already offered to help via this forum Very Happy

Cheers!
