Urgent Help with Factory Order No to change spec
Hi,
As some of you will know, I've been trying to get my towbar (dealer fitted I think) changed to locking rear Diff on my order.
Marshalls Corporate have finally come back to me saying that it is now in Fixed Build status with LR and they are unable to change it. Delivery to the dealer is not planned until the very end of Feb.
I have the Factory Order No, M4587411 are there any LR people out there that can help me with this???
I understood from previous posts that orders may be able to be changed latest 10 days prior to build. Also, if I can get the changed spec, what I need to get Marshalls to do to confirm it (I assume they won't just change the spec on my request without paperwork, otherwise I'l have the metropolis please )
your order will probably have been committed to build now, however it could be possible to add the locking diff the only problem is, it will possibly add another 5-6 weeks to the delivery period (as it did for one of my customers before christmas)
so there may be a chance of adding it but how much do you need it,
if you want it ask your dealer to try and change the order, if they can't / won't ask them to e-mail order control and it should be able to be done there.

Ian, your dealer seems to have taken a very long time to get back to you on this, did they try and change the order when you first asked? Possibly you need to 'lean' on them a bit and question why it's taken so long for a response? The End

Slimer,
I think tbh that the dealer didn't action anything until I chased last week, so I've got some pressure I can apply to them again there.

(sent you PM)
I'd really love to make sure I get it in March, but I'd be willing to wait 4-6 weeks to get the locking Diff. Planning on keeping the car for some time & the plan is to slowly upgrade the relevant offroad parts & accessories over the next couple of years & then pass it on to SWMBO & i'll then use it on the weekends for some off road sorties
Maybe it'll never go places the rear lock diff would be needed for, but you never know how much the offroad bug gets you until you're already bitten! Bodsys Brake Bible

From the limited off-roading I have done in my new Disco and from the LRE day I went on I would say wait for the Diff if at all possible. It does make a difference.

Does it really make that much difference?
I thought about adding it but then couldnt' envisage a scenario where I will need it (though i am planning to go offroading)... nothing yet.

Go to the Land Rover Experience and get them to demonstrate. I was really surprised with how it performed with one.

the Saga continues....
After a couple of options from you helpful chaps, I keep getting the same answer from dealer and LR that it's in fixed build & can't be changed.....
Only option now (unless the inside track can come up with anything) is to see if I can get out of this order & re-order with my new updated spec. Just don't know how much the cancellation would cost me until I speak to Freeway tomorrow.....
Otherwise I'll end up with a £40+k car, & anytime I get stuck in mud off road, I'll always be thinking "would it have got through if i'd had the rear locking diff...."
On the other hand, at least I'd get it in March as planned
I know this may be obvious and I might be being stupid here but can't it be retro-fitted??
I assume not otherwise you wouldn't be making such a fuss about it but if it can't be retro-fitted then why can't it?Back in the game!

There's a couple of other threads on people asking this previously, upside is that it's well over £2k for the parts (even if they were available) plus the control thingy needs updating which you can't do for something like that without using the programming codes & getting a 'special' code from LR which they're unlikely to release (apparently).
Then you've got the actual labour to get it changed, so yes a sub£500 option seems to be worth it in the long term esp as I plan to keep it longer term & do some off roading, perhaps even Morocco 2009.
But a worthwhile question to ask.Bodsys Brake Bible
