D4, probably one of the best cars on the road today...does everything, and off road is quite simply unbeatable, even the Defender is no better. I've spent a lot of time off road this year in the most atrocious of conditions and only once did it struggle and that was in mud with no "bottom" to it!
Long distances? Adam answered that above...superb, very quiet and smooth!
Go on you know it makes sense

thanks everyone for all the brilliant replies....
Thing is, using buyacar.com that someone suggested, i can get exactly the same car as
that in the showroom is 56k for 50k but with a 8-12 week wait.
They might quote 8-10 weeks but I got my car from them and it took 5 months My dealer wouldn't go anywhere near there price though and neither would any others at the time.
Any saving in cost was lost with the long wait as the old car devalued. Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it

oldgit st - I may be totally wrong but I think you have been asking similar questions on a agricultural forum? If so are you a member of the NFU? Do you know you can get a 5% discount on an HSE, on top of any discount you can get from the dealer?
PM me if you want any other information but I got what I considered to be a good deal on a new HSE in October.2016 D4 Landmark - Waitomo/Ebony
2012 D4 HSE - Orkney/Almond - gone
2009 D4 XS - Buckingham/Ebony - gone

Hi hc76
most defo not me, not unless the wifes doing it behind my back
Saying that, i am soooooo confused at the moment.
Yesterday tried Disco 4 and q7 again,
NOW i know you will all say about the Q7 but I am so surprised at how good that car is.
The engineering and finish are so so spot on and it drives like a precision missile. HOWEVER there is something that leaves me kind of wanting with it, im not sure if its the interior seemingly being a little bit bland or the fact it is so well put togeather its almost become a sterile experience driving it.
Its ability to devour a motorway in minutes effortlessly astounds me and its road holding/ride are quite mind boggling and in my eyes better than the disco4.
HOWEVER, why oh why does my head and thoughts KEEP drifting back to the Disco ??
Get this. Why would I want the Disco when:-
Its the more expensive deal by quite some
I dont beleive the finish is any where near the Audi's (ok shoot me)
The running costs are higher (VED nearly twice as much / servicing free on the Audi)
The reliabilty surveys are pretty bad for LR and fill me with worries on longevity/reliability
PLEASE someone explain to me WHY MY HEART still wants this damn Disco 4 !
Someone please put me off the Q7 - help me get that right out of my head please please please
Lastly please dont take any offence at the above people, I dont want you to think I am trying to say the Disco is a bad car, its not, I suppose I am suffering with lustful car heart over financialy smart car head
I am sure giving birth is easier than this
thanks for any words peeps

Are you a footballer? If so get the Audi, if not then there's only one car!!
Reliability? I have a pal who got rid of an Audi because of engine trouble and he didn't like the, as you say, the bland interior after a while (I can't comment as haven't been in one).
I always say to people who ask me about the D4 and are thinking of buying a LR product, "If you get one, be prepared to never ever want anything else afterwards!"
Go on, you'll look and feel the part!!

German cars lose out in reliability survey
A recent survey has found that German cars, including Audi, BMW and VW, are among the worst when it comes to engine failure. (See D4 at #10 in the Top 10 most reliable)

I think the decision is an easy one....
go for the cheapest
then spend the next 3 years looking at every D4 thats passes you and wishing you had bought one of those..
as for the reliability - its all propaganda, there are good and bad cars in all Makes. ive had good reliability from the D3 and the 2 D4s. considering what the D3 went through during its life I would say it was extremely reliable, especialy if you keep ontop of the maintenance.Duncan

I've had 5 FFRR's and 2 Disco 4's over the years and I have never had reliability problems with any vehicle. That's why, once you've had one, you never want anything else!
Expensive? Probably, but you can't take it with you!

this was my first post :

Should I cancel my D3 order ??
Hi All,
I have been browsing this forum for the last 6 weeks since ordering my TDV6 HSE, and I must say I am starting to think I may havew wasted £40K !!
When I had the car for a 260 mile test drive I experienced no problems other than the wing mirrors not returning to their proper postion, which the dealer (MJ Fews Bristol) hadnt heard of. This forum would suggest however taht it is a common problem
It also clearly showed the pre-heat cool option.
The car was great to drive and has all the space I need. However, having read all the problems with parking brakes not working, suspension lowering at speed, pre-heat faulty, and the list goes on :- SHOULD I CANCEL MY ORDER.
I have just sold a perfectly good 2004 Merc E320 CDI Estate in readiness for the D3's June delivery.
Some honest unbiased advise would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
and here I am 7 years on having had 1 x D3HSE , 1 x D4HSE and now a D4XS plus a Freelander2 !! and driven the best part of 250,000 milesDuncan

No, I was told by people in the car trade.
I don't think, on second thoughts, it has happened yet but is due to cease March/April. They are going to be Izuzu dealers apparently, although I haven't spoken in person to Peter (Herbert) at Fews.
One of the service managerial guys has gone to Salmon in Bris, left at beginning of Jan.
I bought all my cars from Pete, but couldn't compete with Ottons on the Disco's....shame really as I've known them from the RR classic days! Ah well
